Are you looking for an armchair for your living room, dressing room, hallway or bedroom that doesn't take up much space, yet is comfortable and functional and also looks great? So it's no wonder you're interested in poof! This is one of the pieces of furniture that has not gone out of fashion for years and undergoes interesting metamorphoses with each new trend in housing. What can it bring to your home and why should you choose a pouf? We explain!
Modern pouffe - does it resemble famous models from the time of the Polish People's Republic?
Many certainly remember the pouffes from the Polish People's Republic; or even today from time to time he sits on them, visiting his grandparents or parents. At that time, leather-covered seats predominated, as well as wooden-legged models upholstered in thick material.
Another characteristic was their great weight; despite their small size, old poufs are really heavy pieces of furniture. The vast majority of models had a raised seat, opening up a fairly spacious interior. The ubiquitous flowers and the combination of beige with brown or burgundy are remembered today with a sentimental smile, but it is difficult to imagine placing such a piece of furniture in a very modern interior.
Modern poufs - characteristic features
How many of the above features can be found in modern poufs? First of all, the form - that is, a combination of a compact, low seat with additional storage space. However, design trends have changed, shifting heavily towards minimalism or glamour, and the weight of the furniture has definitely decreased. Modern poufs are very often upholstered in shiny, elegant velor and usually come in a single color. A popular motif is also the placement of poufs on golden metal legs that give character to the furniture, as well as the quilting of the material.
The poufs, which are huge pillows, devoid of a box and other hard elements, have also gained considerable popularity. What's more, you can also find fold-out pouffes with a sleeping function on the market, which you can read more about later in the article.
Practical pouffe with storage and seating
The storage pouffe, also known as the chest, is by far the most popular and traditional model of this type of furniture. No wonder, because it is extremely practical and uses the space it takes up very ingeniously. When the seat is raised or completely removed, the user has access to the container.
It can store underwear, winter clothing accessories (gloves, scarves, hats), a collection of newspapers or crossword puzzles, decorative scarves, blankets, soft toys, building blocks, pet toys and much more. It even doubles as a place to hide dry snacks such as pre-packaged popcorn, chips, waffles or sticks so they're always on hand when you want to spend an evening watching a good movie or series.
In addition to the storage function, the pouffe is of course also used as a seat. The cover is usually covered with a soft cushion, thanks to which this accessory guarantees comfort. It is a piece of furniture without a back, so when not in use, it allows you to easily slip under a high table, thus saving even more space in the room and making it easier to clean the floors.
The original pouffe with a sleeping function is a bed folded into a cube.
Pouffes come in different sizes, they also have different shapes: they can be oval, square, rectangular and asymmetrical. And there are also pouffes with a sleep function - for the living room as an extra bed for a guest or for a teenage or children's bedroom. They are larger than standard models, usually square, sometimes with a back. They consist of several elements stacked on top of each other, which, when unfolded, turn into a rectangular single bed.
This bed does not take up much space, so it is perfect for a small bedroom or just as a guest piece of furniture. Placed in the living room, it will not interfere with the preparation of coffee for everyone in the morning.
Modern poufs have not only changed visually, but also gained functionality. This is a small, but at the same time extremely practical piece of furniture, which is definitely worth finding a place in your apartment. Placed in a wardrobe or hallway, it's perfect as a place to sit while putting on your shoes and other clothes!
