Extended test: Mazda CX-5 CD150 AWD - similar, but good
Krijans is a term that has been used at least in part to refer to SUVs, but they don't have much in common with SUVs. More and more choices every day, and more than the "off-road" part of the features, the manufacturers emphasize individuality, digitization and design.

So there will be fewer four-wheel drive vehicles than you might expect, but on the other hand, you can think of top-notch infotainment systems with rich connectivity, digital meters and plenty of auxiliary systems. In fact, in some places they are just computers packed in fancy and more or less pleasing to the eye sheet metal, where (with rare exceptions) it doesn't matter how they are operated, just that they are comfortable enough.
Our extended Mazda CX-5 test is not of this variety. Its counters are analog and only have an outwardly rather old digital part, which, however, offers too little information in an overly opaque form. It doesn't even have a digital speedometer, which is almost essential in times of lockdown and harsh punishments, and its infotainment system (it should be noted that Mazda is already preparing a new one) is otherwise a good example of the previous generation. . It also has a touch screen, which is too far away to be really useful, and the rotary knob controls are a little “yesterday's” these days, but it's got to be admitted that this thing is well-researched enough to be used intuitively. enough and simple. It lacks modern smartphone connectivity features (Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto), and the built-in navigation works well.
But this "our" CX-5 is still very close to my heart, even though I'm probably the biggest fan of car (and automatic transmission) digitization in the newsroom. Why? Because in its "analogy" it is a very sophisticated and exciting driving. Gearbox for example: short leverage, fast and precise movements, good coordination with the clutch operation (which has a pleasantly soft pedal movement). Together with a responsive (even at very low revs) diesel (okay; I'd go for the petrol myself, but since the diesel is sleek and lively enough, so be it) and all-wheel drive is a great recipe for an always lively and safe ride. There were also quite a few miles of rubble during the summer holiday months, and since this CX-5 also has all-wheel drive and the tires are tall enough to not fear every rock, there was also quite a bit of dust behind it. behind and fun behind the wheel. When we add to that (for crossovers) a pleasantly precise steering wheel with enough feedback and good enough seats (and of course room and flexibility for family vacation use), it's clear why the CX-5 is so close to my heart.
Otherwise: I believe that those who have not yet had a “digitized” car will still not notice the one that is written at the beginning of the text. And this CX-5 will love it.
