Extended test: VW Golf 2.0 TDI (110 kW) DSG Highline

The last time I wrote my impressions of a long Volkswagen Golf test, I asked myself: is the exterior really deceiving? The question, of course, was intended primarily to divide between the fact that the Golf, whatever we call it, is from the lower middle class, and the average Slovene probably does not expect to deduct just 32.000 euros. To do this, you can get a bigger car, perhaps even a better-known brand.

But I leave the search for the best offer to the more sports-minded readers. And finally, the question of whether such golf really pays off with the money invested in it.

In fact, this is the most important and most difficult answer. I have had the opportunity to try out a wide variety of versions of the new Golf XNUMX, from the all-electric and plug-in hybrid models to the base turbo diesel and turbo petrol models. In any case, this is a modern design, and Volkswagen engineers did it perfectly. Either way, you look at the new Golf, but either way you will find so few flaws that it is already truly amazing.

Of course, our more than three months' testing of the Golf 2.0 TDI BMT (110 kW) DSG was a pleasant experience and we were very sorry to have to return it to the showroom.

What is most compelling about the tested model is the ideal level of comfort and accessories that make the driver's job easier, from the elaborate headlights and additional headlights (which we described in the previous issue) to its satisfactory efficiency compared to the two. electrified competitors (Opel Ampera and Toyota Prius Plug-In) at least in some operating conditions are even cheaper than compared (Auto shop, # 3 this year).

For those looking for a little more electronic support when using a phone in a car, previous generations of Volkswagen vehicles have generated a lot of anger over the extremely complicated and costly way of connecting a phone or connecting with a simple USB stick. stick. The new electronic modules in the Golf have allowed anger to be forgotten, although it is of course true that even now, Golf connectivity depends on higher equipment packages or surcharges.

Also worth mentioning is the Golf's new 11.000-liter TDI engine. This one is now slightly more powerful than its predecessor, but it has confirmed that it can also be much more economical. The test average says less about this, as we used an average of 6,9 liters of fuel per 100 km and just under 9,6 kilometers, with one of the testers being particularly wasteful, with an average of 100 liters per 5,2 km, the other, but very economical, with a consumption of 100 liters per XNUMX km, the rest is on average. And let someone else say that the way you drive is not critical ...
