Renault 5 Turbo: ICONICARS - Sports car

Equipped with a mid-engine and rear-wheel drive, “Tourbona“There was a real supercar in miniature. Renault decided to remove the normal body Renault 5 (equipped with an engine and front wheel drive) and transform it to accommodate the engine behind the seats. The spare wheel, brake pump and batteries were positioned at the front to balance the weight, while huge air intakes were opened on the rear axle to cool the brakes and engine.

Between 1980 and 1983 more than Renault 1.800 Turbo 5 years... It was a truly exotic car, not a single sports car resembled it: to save weight, the original doors were replaced with aluminum ones, the fenders and extended bumpers (the width of the car is 175 cm, a lot for a small car) were made of fiberglass, and the fender was made of polyurethane.

Then the dashboard was replaced with a very "racing" set of instruments that had little to do with Renault 5 original. In fact, the first version was designed to easily transform into a racing car, and it was.

In 1983 wasTurbo 2 inch, a version almost identical to the first, but using less valuable materials to reduce costs.
