Renault Mégane Sedan 1.9 dCi Dynamic Lux

Surprising but true. Obviously, a person is programmed to follow established life cycles. If the twenties are focused on completing studies, carefree wanderings and subsequent search for work, then the thirties are marked by building a nest and planning offspring. Whether this is written down in our genes or our environment pushes us to this (friends who are in the same period of life complain to the elderly in the sense of “or do not think about the child,” etc.) will remain unknown forever.

But the periods of life mentioned are also very marked by the choice of a car. If earlier we thought about a coupe, we were more embarrassed by how many "horses" and which "heavy" alloy wheels to choose, now they become more important than the luggage compartment (where will we put the trolley?) child in a child seat!) and safety (isofix, as a rule, active and passive car safety). In short, you start thinking of a van or a four-door version of a certain model that, at twenty, will immediately squeeze you into a distant region of brain tissue in disgust.

The Mégane is an interesting car, as it is freshly designed, safe, a bit cozy (some say Renault is quite Slovenian) and with a wide range of versions. Especially now that four-door versions of the sedan and the Grandtour van are available in Slovenia. As you may have read in the twentieth edition of this year, where we recorded the first driving impressions from the international launch, the Mégane Sedan is not only longer than the station wagon version, but also has a 61 mm longer wheelbase, which gives more knee room. rear passengers (230 mm).

Much more attention has been paid to comfort: if the station wagon version flirts with sportiness, then the sedan has a much softer suspension. Shock absorbers and suspension movements are focused on comfort, as are the seats, which are positioned much higher than the three-door version. Otherwise, the driving characteristics of the Mégane family are similar to those of other versions, which we have described several times in Avto magazine. Only in extreme cases, when the tires start to run out of power, can you find while driving that you are pulling a little more of the car with you, but only the most sensitive drivers will notice, and the remaining ninety percent will not. The rest of the position is very reliable, perhaps only the steering wheel is broken, which gives the driver only modest information about what is happening to the front drive wheels.

Presumably, the sedan was bought by many people who had previously flirted with the larger Laguna. There are two reasons for this: they think the Laguna is too expensive or too big, and on the other hand, they insist that they need a lot of space in the car. However, as with the Lagoon, the rear seat will also accommodate a 180-centimeter passenger as there is plenty of headroom and legroom. Its comfort will be further enhanced by a closed drawer in the rear parcel shelf (i.e. under the rear window) and movable sun louvers on the rear side doors and next to the rear window.

Interestingly, both the sedan and the Grandtour have the same basic trunk size (520 liters), but unlike the sedan (which only has a third rear bench) in the van version, this volume can be increased to an enviable 1600 liters. Thus, the sedan pleases with the main trunk space, and we were less impressed by the narrow opening through which we can only push the luggage into the trunk.

The modern 1-litre dCi turbodiesel, six-speed transmission and Dynamique Lux equipment, in addition to the boot space, are the reasons why the feel in the Mégane is very pleasant, already quite luxurious. The 9-horsepower turbodiesel is the better solution, especially compared to the anemic XNUMX-litre petrol version, as it is relatively quiet, economical and quite powerful. Sixth gear can only be used on motorways as an "economy option", and the rich equipment (xenon headlights, alloy wheels, four airbags, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, CD radio ...) makes the Mégane an attractive car. car is up a notch.

But if you think the Mégane is a popular car built and fit for a (thirty-year-old) "paradise", look at the price. Cars are always better, but who the hell can afford them?
