Is it worth remembering before leaving? First of all, you need to check the technical condition of the car. It is also worth acquiring devices that will allow us to travel long distances without a ticket. On January 1, new, many times higher fines for traffic violations came into force. The number of seats has increased tenfold compared to 2021. What are the rules to follow to avoid incurring additional unplanned expenses during increased winter holiday travel?

From January 1 this year. the police can impose higher fines, which can now be up to 5. zł. Currently, PLN 10 is charged for exceeding the speed limit of 50 km/h. The amount of the mandate does not change every 10 km, as before, but for every additional 5 km. What does this mean in practice? If we exceed the speed limit by 12 km, we will pay PLN 100, and if we drive 17 km faster than indicated by the signs, the amount will be PLN 200.

This is the current speed limit rate:

  • exceeding the speed limit up to 10 km/h – PLN 50
  • speeding from 11 to 15 km/h – PLN 100
  • speeding from 16 to 20 km/h – PLN 200
  • speeding from 21 to 25 km/h – PLN 300
  • speeding from 26 to 30 km/h – PLN 400
  • speeding from 31 to 40 km/h – PLN 800
  • speeding from 41 to 50 km/h – PLN 1000
  • speeding from 51 to 60 km/h – PLN 1500
  • speeding from 61 to 70 km/h – PLN 2000
  • exceeding the speed limit of 71 km/h – PLN 2500

The amount of the fine for punishing drivers who were taken to court for violating traffic rules has also changed from 5. up to 30 thousand Such punishment is subject to punishment for offenses, incl. driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or without a valid driver's license, failing to stop for a roadside check, endangering traffic, failing to assist an accident victim, or failing to identify the perpetrator when we provide them with our vehicle.

In 2022, penalties for not having a third party liability insurance policy also increased. In the case of passenger cars, if we are late with civil liability insurance on the third day, we will pay PLN 3, and if we exceed PLN 1200, the amount will increase to PLN 14.
