SIPS - Side Impact Protection System

Volvo's Active Safety System, designed to protect passengers in areas most prone to impact. The steel structure of the vehicle, including the front seats, is designed and reinforced to help distribute side impact forces to other parts of the body, away from passengers, and reduce penetration into the passenger compartment. The extremely robust sidewall construction is made of very high-strength steel to resist the strong side impact of even larger vehicles.

The IC (Inflatable Curtain) device for all passengers and the dual chamber front side airbags interact to provide additional protection.
