Security systems. This is to help drivers.

Security systems. This is to help drivers. Cars are increasingly able to regulate their own speed, brake in case of danger, stay in the lane and read road signs. These technologies not only make life easier for drivers, but also help prevent many dangerous accidents.

However, they should be used wisely and in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines and recommendations. Meanwhile, studies show that one in ten drivers will be tempted to… take a nap* when using such systems.

Fully autonomous cars are not yet free to drive on public roads. However, the cars presented in showrooms are equipped with many technologies that are a step towards a vehicle that moves without driver participation. So far, these solutions support the person behind the wheel, and do not replace it. How should you use them to improve your security?

The car will keep a safe distance and brake if necessary

Active cruise control can do more than maintain a selected constant speed. Thanks to him, the car keeps a safe distance from the car in front. The technologically advanced system can also bring the vehicle to a full stop and start moving, which is especially useful in traffic jams.

Active Emergency Brake Assist detects cyclists and pedestrians to warn the driver of a dangerous situation if necessary and brake the vehicle if necessary.

Monitoring, lane maintenance and lane change assistance

Lane Keeping Assist reduces the risk of accidents on motorways or expressways where lane departure is one of the common causes of accidents. The system warns the driver and corrects the trajectory if the car starts to cross the lane without turning on the turn signal, for example, if the driver falls asleep while driving. Modern cars also help you change lanes safely with blind spot monitoring systems.

Overspeed warning

Speeding is one of the most common causes of traffic accidents. Now, thanks to the camera, the car can warn the driver about the speed limit on the site and suggest the appropriate speed.

Taking naps and texting while driving is still illegal

Although driving assistance systems are designed to improve road safety, studies have shown that some drivers are not reckless in their use of these features. Many respondents admitted that using this technology they would be willing to go against the law and manufacturers' recommendations and text (34%) or take a nap while driving (11%)*.

Modern technologies bring us closer to the era of autonomous cars, but the use of driving assistance systems should not affect the driver's vigilance. He must still keep his hands on the wheel, keep a close eye on the road and ensure maximum concentration on the activity he is doing,” says Zbigniew Veseli, Director of the Renault Driving School.
