Pedestrian rescue
The likelihood of a pedestrian colliding with a vehicle is low. New technical solutions can change the situation.
The likelihood of a pedestrian colliding with a vehicle is low. Automakers are trying to develop solutions that improve the safety of non-motorized citizens of our planet.
In the future, any new road vehicle is expected to be subject to a pedestrian crash test. The problem is that the hood of a modern car is low, which is due to the desire to reduce the aerodynamic drag of the body and aesthetic considerations. It is difficult to imagine, for example, a sports car with a raised front end. On the other hand, from the point of view of pedestrian protection, the engine cover should be located much higher, which spoils the harmony of forms.
Since the engine hood is low, it must be raised at the time of a collision. This obvious idea was implemented by Honda engineers. The system consists of three sensors located in the front bumper. In the event of a collision with pedestrians, they send a signal to the computer, which raises the hood by 10 cm. It absorbs body shock, thereby reducing the risk of serious injury.
