StoreDot: 2021 scooter batteries recharge in 5 minutes

Israeli startup StoreDot has announced that it will release batteries for electric scooters in 2021 that recharge in five minutes. The energy received during this time should allow you to travel 70 kilometers. Today, reaching the same range requires several hours of charger downtime.

StoreDot, or less lithium, more germanium and tin = super fast charging?

StoreDot and BP just unveiled an electric scooter that fully charged batteries in five minutes (source). The batteries developed by the startup are based on StoreDot cells, which are known to be modified lithium-ion cells. They should contain less lithium and less flammable electrolytes, as well as more germanium and tin. Company president Doron Meiersdorf claims that while high power was achieved during the presentation—probably around 25-30kW, or 12°C—the elements don't degrade quickly.

This was the second presentation by an Israeli startup. The first one happened in 2014, when the StoreDot battery in a smartphone was fully charged in 30 seconds (!):

The company boasts that batteries will hit the market in 2021, and that the next presentation will focus on fully charging Mercedes - it will offer 480 kilometers in just 5 minutes with a charger. It's easy to convert it if a startup uses a Mercedes EQC 400 as a base (Daimler is one of the investors), the StoreDot battery inside should have a capacity of approximately 111 kWh.... So to fully charge in five minutes, you need a 1,34 MW charger.

For comparison, the Ionity charger network built in Europe supports up to 350 kW, and Tesla V3 superchargers just over 250 kW. The most powerful EV charging stations available today can handle up to 450 kW:

> There is a 450 kW charger and two prototypes: BMW i3 160 Ah (175 kW charging) and a modified Panamera (400+ kW!)
