We invite you to review the events of automotive history, the anniversary of which falls this week.

22.10.1992 октября г. | Subaru Impreza показана миру

This week is the anniversary of the first Subaru Impreza presentation. At that time, it was only the successor to the popular Leone model, a model that has been in the brand's range since 1971, but quickly gained prestige. Subaru has invested heavily in rallying, earning it recognition and proving that two of the brand's most distinctive features - the boxer engine and all-wheel drive - work well in tough fights.

The first generation Subaru Impreza was produced until 2000 as a sedan and not very roomy station wagon. In addition to civilian versions powered by small 1.5, 1.6 or 1.8 engines, there were performance-oriented WRX variants that have cult status today.

So far, the event has had five generations. The latter was introduced in 2016 and is offered in sedan and hatchback body styles, with a range of high-performance versions being spun off into a separate model. Today, the event should be associated with a normal, economical car.

23.10.1911 октября г. | Первый Ford T, сделанный в Великобритании

When Henry Ford became successful in the US, he began to expand overseas. One of the largest investments was the construction of a factory in Brentwood, England, which began in 1909. The first Ford car left the factory on October 23, 1911, but the brand was known from the very beginning of its operation. The first Ford was sold in the British Isles as early as 1903. In subsequent years, several hundred cars were sold annually. The English-built Ford T allowed the price to drop and thus scale up. The Ford T soon took over 30 percent of the market.

The venture proved successful and the American brand invested in more factories, becoming one of the most important players in the UK.

24.10.1986 октября г. | Презентация FSO Wars

In the 125s, the Fiat 1983p, which was called the FSO p from 125, became obsolete. Polonaise, built on its own floor slab and equipped with the same power plant. In Zheran, work began on the design of a middle-class car that could replace the models produced at that time. Thus was born the concept of Wars - after Syrena - the second post-war passenger car developed in Poland.

The Voin featured a modern five-door silhouette, in which one can find similarities with the Opel Kadett introduced in 1979. It was a small, functional and economical car equipped with 1.1 and 1.3 engines. Design work began in 1981 and two prototypes were shown on 24 October 1986.

The FSO never put Wars into production, which was mainly due to too high implementation costs. Instead, the FSO 1991p was produced until 125 and the Polonaise was produced ten years longer.

October 25.10.1972, XNUMX | Three millionth Mini released

Three years after the debut of the Mini Mark III, on October 25, 1972, the three millionth model of the most popular car in English pop culture was released.

Mini entered the history of the automotive industry with golden letters, reaching a ripe old age. The last classic left the Birmingham factory in 2000. Today, Mini is owned by BMW, and its current lineup, while in a classic silhouette, bears little resemblance to Sir Alec Issigonis's speculations.

This week is another big anniversary, because at the 13th Tokyo Motor Show on October 26, 1966, the first ever Corolla was presented at the Toyota stand - a model that entered the brand's DNA.

The engineers were faced with the task of creating a modern passenger car larger than the small-scale Publica and cheaper than the Corona. It was a bull's eye. Corolla became the best selling car in Japan, and soon the model found its place in other markets. In 2013, Toyota announced that it had produced 40 million vehicles across all generations. The result would have been even better if not for Auris. Now the Japanese brand is returning to its roots with a new Corolla recently introduced.

October 27.10.1937, 16 October XNUMX | Cadillac shows the world the new V

The history of the automotive industry knows not so many cars with a V16 engine, so the anniversary of the debut of one of them is an event worthy of attention. Cadillac has chosen New York, one of the most important American cities when it comes to business, culture and the arts, as the location for the limousine's premiere. It was there that the new Model 27, called the Series 1937, was introduced on October 16, 90. It was powered by a sixteen-cylinder 7.1-liter unit with 187 hp, which had to cope with a heavy body. With this, he coped well - the car could accelerate to 160 km / h and provided excellent acceleration, even compared to smaller cars with V8 units.

The Cadillac V16 was produced until the end of 1939. Before that, only about three hundred cars were built in different body styles: sedan, convertible, coupe, town car. There were even two presidential versions. Prices, depending on the version, ranged from 5 to 7. dollars, which, at the current value of the dollar, corresponds to amounts in the range of 90-130 thousand dollars.

Never since has Cadillac mass-produced a car with so many cylinders, although it has tried to do so. The V16 remains one of the most unique vehicles in the marque's history.

October 28.10.2010, XNUMX | Autonomous cars complete journey from Italy to Shanghai

October 28, 2010 ended a 100-day adventure of Italian students and engineers who built an autonomous car. The vehicle managed to cross 9 countries and almost 16 thousand. km on the way from Parma to Shanghai.

Interestingly, it was not a fancy car. The students exhibited the well-known Italian classic Piaggio delivery van in the electric version, which can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. The car was equipped with sensors on the bumper and on a specially prepared roof with solar panels, which were supposed to support the autonomous driving system. The expedition was carried out using two pairs of vehicles, one of which covered the distance without driver intervention. The first acted as a guide, and sometimes the human factor is indispensable.

It was the first expedition of its kind and, most importantly, successful.
