Test: Kia Carens 1.7 CRDi (85 kW) LX Family

In Kia, of course, they could not pass by the euphoria that prevailed at the World Cup, so the new Carens offered a special offer called the World Cup 2014. But luck is that the entire editorial staff of Auto magazine found the author. to whom football means as much as yesterday's newspaper.

Luckily for the writer, only the sticker on the back of the car indicates football, because the rookie didn't have the ball to prove I could dribble, or to answer before taking the car, or I know what country Cristiano Ronaldo is from. ... ... Spain, right? Joking aside, Kia, along with co-owner Hyundai, of course, has been participating in world football as a sponsor for many years, so we cannot consider this a bad thing. However, the question of whether football is the right training ground for a car factory and whether it might be more appropriate to invest in motorsport remains controversial.

Kia Karens is the work of Peter Schreyer's team, and based on the reviews, they (again) had a good day, week, or month as much as the designers spent on basic movements. The third generation is slightly shorter (20mm), narrower (15mm) and lower (40mm) than its predecessor, but due to its 50mm longer wheelbase, it is large enough to easily ride a scooter in addition to two adults . children., skis or luggage for the weekend. Carens offers two options, a five-seat and a seven-seat version, so count your kids carefully before you buy. Regardless of the number of babies, you will be satisfied with the equipment offered by the 2014 World Cup.

ESC stabilization system, Start Assist (HAC), front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, reversing camera, rear parking sensors, LED daytime running lights and front fog lamps for cornering lights, dual-zone air conditioning, interior cooling, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever, central locking, cruise control and speed limiter, rain sensor, FlexSteer, trip computer, Bluetooth, heated front seats, 16-inch alloy wheels, sunroof and tinted windows also convince these parents who otherwise would not have ranked Key among the favorites.

The driving position is good thanks to the generously adjustable seats and steering wheel, although my back didn't really like the too soft (and too concave) lumbar section. In fact, we only blame the dashboard for its very modest dimensions, although it reigns supreme on the top of the center console and is modern to the touch, as well as a slightly inexpensive plastic that probably turns out to be more in terms of cleaning than aesthetics. Workmanship? No comments. FlexSteer offers three steering wheel steering options: Normal, Comfort and Sport.

Electric Power Steering provides very little resistance to maneuvering in parking spaces, normal operation for everyday driving, and a sportier mode that rewards faster drivers at higher speeds. The steering wheel, along with the six-speed manual transmission, works a little artificially, too indirectly, but pleasantly and always neatly. A suitable solution for this type of car if you are definitely not a fan of more sporty Fords.

At the rear, there are three independent seats, which are also longitudinally adjustable. Unfortunately, there are no Isofix mounts in the center, which is, to put it mildly, a strange decision given the family orientation of the car. But don't get distracted, otherwise you may soon forget where you stored something, in many storage places (even in the lower part of the cabin!).

The 1,7-liter turbodiesel can be called "Work of the Week" as it handles its pressure well. It is not the quietest, although it is quite refined, it can also provide encouraging overtaking and consumes only 5,3 liters per 100 kilometers on a normal loop. Perhaps it would be even better if the ISG (Idle Stop & Go system) engine shut-off system was not only included in the list of accessories (surcharge of 300 euros). While we had a weaker 85 kilowatt version in our test (there is also a more nervous 100 kilowatt version), we are not surprised that it is already the most popular choice for both the Carens and Sportage. It just fits into this car until, of course, you load it to full capacity.

In conclusion, let's say that he likes to go to third, but we could only shout: "Football!"
