Test Kratek: Opel Insignia Sports Tourer 2.0 CDTi Biturbo Cosmo

Yes and no. Yes, because this Insignia is a station wagon (which Opel now calls a Sports Tourer), and yes, a few years ago almost 200 “horsepower” (143 kilowatts, to be exact) could be described as a sports car in this class. .

But it is not. The Biturbo is a diesel, and although the mentioned engine power and especially the 400 Nm of torque on paper is an impressive figure, in absolute terms, this Insignia remains "only" a well-motorized diesel engine. And it's hard to play sports with diesels, isn't it?

Now that this is clear, we can of course also write that the engine is excellent at around XNUMX rpm, but lower down, starting at XNUMX, we might expect a bit more responsiveness from such a technologically advanced engine (make no mistake, it's still light years ahead of some other diesels in the Opel range). The driver (and perhaps even more passengers) is also pleased with the fact that the torque does not come in jerks, but gradually increases continuously, as well as the fact that the soundproofing is good enough and consumption is still low. end - in the test it averaged out at just under eight litres, and with very moderate driving it can turn around six litres, quite easily.

The chassis is less friendly, mainly due to the 19-inch tires with a cross-section of 45. Besides the fact that such sizes are extremely inconvenient (of course, affordable), when you need to buy a winter or a new set of summer tires, their hips are also stiff. Otherwise good suspension and damping) punches passengers too many impacts (especially short, sharp) from the road. But that's just the price to pay for a sporty car look and a slightly better road position (which is impossible with this type of car anyway, except for safe handling) and a good enough feel on the steering wheel for what happens to the front wheels.

The Sports Tourer means plenty of space in a beautifully designed boot (minus: the rear bench divisible by two thirds is divided so that the smaller part is on the right, which is unfavorable for using a child seat), a lot of space for the rear bench and of course comfort in the front. And since the test Insignia had the designation Cosmo, it means that there were no sparing means in the equipment.

The form is a purely subjective thing, but if we write that such an Insignia Sports Tourer is one of the most dynamic and pleasant (sports) caravans, we will not miss it. This new engine improves design performance while maintaining acceptable fuel consumption.
