Bjorn Nyland is probably the first in the world to test the VW ID.4 GTX, an electrician on the MEB all-wheel drive platform. The car turned out to be quite economical; in Polish conditions, during a typical vacation trip, it traveled up to 500 kilometers with one stop for recharging.

VW ID.4 GTX - range test

Volkswagen ID.4 (also in the GTX version) is an electric crossover on the border of the C- and D-SUV segments. In the all-wheel drive version, the car has a 77 kWh battery with a total output of 220 kW (299 hp). Its counterparts from the Volkswagen stable are the Skoda Enyaq iV vRS (and the Enyaq 80x, but this variant has less power) and the Audi Q4 e-tron 50 Quattro.

The car was driving 21 inch wheels, the temperature was about twenty degrees Celsius, in some places it was raining. The test was carried out in the mode B i Eco.

Average consumption at a speed of 120 km / h was 22,1 kWh / 100 km (221 Wh / km), at 90 km / h - 16 kWh / 100 km. The results were similar to the Enyaq iV and ID.4 except these models were rear wheel drive and 150 kW (204 hp). Nyland concluded that the MEB platform was well designed and that there was no significant range loss after the addition of a second engine at the front:

Based on available battery capacity – this was 75 kWh in real terms – VW ID.4 GTX coating should be (we are brave lines that we found more useful when planning a trip, because no one is discharged to zero on the way):

  • 456 km with a discharged battery to 0 and a speed of 90 km / h,
  • 410 km with a battery discharge of up to 10 percent and a speed of 90 km / h,
  • 319 km when driving from 80 to 10 percent and a speed of 90 km / h,
  • 330 km with a discharged battery to 0 and a speed of 120 km / h,
  • 297 km with a battery discharge of up to 10 percent and a speed of 120 km / h,
  • 231 km when driving from 80 to 10 percent and a speed of 120 km / h.

To summarize: if we decide to go on vacation with a Volkswagen ID.4, we have to schedule the first stop after a maximum of 300 kilometers and the next one after a maximum of 230 kilometers.

According to Nyland, the VW ID.4 GTX is quite quiet insideIt also offers slightly more rear luggage space than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (543 versus 527 liters), which is also more manageable than the Hyundai, at least in the banana box test. But Volkswagen does not have a boot in the front, and the Ioniq 5 has one, albeit a small one (24 liters in the AWD version). Prices for VW ID.4 GTX in Poland - from PLN 226, with reasonable equipment - about PLN 190-250 thousand.

It is worth watching the entire entry:
