Test gratings: Dacia Sandero dCi 75 Laureate

Times are not rosy and it looks like the financial crisis will become part of our lives for a while. But that's not the reason why we couldn't buy a new car. The Dacia Sandero is the car that best embodies the current wallet options of most Slovenians. Look at the price of the car and accessories, and everything will be clear to you.

The base price of this car is 10.600 euros, together with the accessories (where it is worth mentioning only electric rear windows for 100 euros, aluminum 15-inch wheels for 290 euros and a metallic sheen for 390 euros) we get a decent car for 11.665 euros. . At the same time, you should know that every Dacia Sandero already comes standard with ESP, four airbags and air conditioning. Uh, success story? Yes, if you overlook that the expected four EuroNCAP stars are the upper limit and that driving is by no means a pleasure.

Basically, driving pleasure can be divided into two parts: sportiness and comfort. While the Sandero completely burns out in sportiness as the engine is too weak, the transmission is too slow and the chassis is unresponsive, it would have gotten a higher score in terms of comfort. Maybe not quite with soundproofing, since the noise from under the tires and from the transmission is still too strong, but because of the softness of the suspension and damping.

For example, pits from impacts, which are really a lot in Slovenia after plowing this year, or the so-called speed bumps: the chassis so successfully mitigates bouncing that passengers hardly notice them. Since for the first time I did not even understand how Sandero easily overcomes high-speed obstacles, I tried again, and then I would have continued more and more daringly, if I did not spare the tires and wheels. So if you're a fan of chassis softness and strength, you can't go wrong with the Sander.

A similar story with the engine. For normal driving, it is quite suitable, besides the calm driver is also attracted by an average consumption of about six liters. However, if you want a little more juice from the 1,5-liter dCi, which of course comes from Renault's shelves, when overtaking on a slope or jumping next to a heavier car, we advise you to be patient and careful.

Only 75 "horsepower" can not keep up with the Clio RS, so you'd better insert a USB dongle with your favorite music into the slot and entertain passengers with an interesting story to make the trip go faster. The driving position is unsatisfactory because the seat is too short and the steering wheel cannot be adjusted longitudinally. Due to the awkward placement of the electric side window switches (the lower center console for the front and the space between the front seats for the rear windows), we also missed out on a few storage areas and therefore praised the durability of the materials used.

Be careful with daytime running lights as you are only lit from the front and the taillights are off despite the darkness of the longer tunnel. In addition to the aforementioned air conditioner, we also praise the radio controls on the steering wheel, as well as getting a little used to the pipes in the left steering wheel lever and the one-way trip computer, which can show either the outside temperature or the clock, but does not allow more data to be displayed.

The engine is well versed in the transmission, although it is only a five-speed. In the Sandera Stepway test (fourth year), we criticized the lower agility due to the "longer" fifth gear, which is even more pronounced in the weaker version, so we praise the moderate noise when driving on the highway. At the speed limit, the tachometer rises just above 2.000, which is good for both ears and moderate consumption. This can be further reduced by pressing the ECO button, which works with intelligent engine controls and heated or cooled to help an already humble diesel engine.

Even though you get old appliances in new packaging at Sander, there is nothing in the car. If you want more usability, check out the Lodgy, the more attractive Stepway, and the fun to drive ... ha, the Clio RS. With a reasonable price and low fuel consumption, this weakest version of the Sander would be the right solution.

  • If you want a new car with proven technology that doesn't go bankrupt when you buy, the Dacia Sandero should definitely be at the top of the list. The price of the machine and especially the (optional) equipment is really attractive!
