Toyota Avensis Universal 2.0 VVT-i

It's that simple: when the driver wants all 16 horsepower from the 152-valve four-cylinder engine, the analogue engine speed indicator needle will move to the red field and stay there until the maximum speed of 210 km. / h

Harmless (CVT sounds better, but truth be told, this gearbox has gears, and there are many—countless in fact.) It constantly ensures that the gear ratio matches the driver's shifting requirements. In practice, this means that at full throttle it spins the engine about seven "yards", while at leisure it shifts much earlier, usually around the 2.500 number.

Presents? Yes, this gearbox is interesting because even when it is in the D position and the foot is not too heavy, there are seven “virtual” gears to choose from. In fact, these stages represent only predetermined positions of the “endless” gearbox and between them. Avensis the selection is made quickly and completely without jerking, even when switching downhill, for example, when driving downhill or when braking in front of an intersection.

This can be done by moving the steering wheel lugs (down left, up right) that rotate with the steering wheel, or by moving the shift lever to M forward (+) or backward (-). There is also a "sports" button next to the gear lever, once activated, the gearbox allows the engine to run at higher RPMs, but this program is more useful under certain conditions because - you should be clear - Avensis he is not an athlete.

On practice multi-drive S (worth 1.800 euros) is best done when we are in no hurry and, lazily topping up gasoline in the engine, order it to rotate below three thousandths. At 145 kilometers per hour, the main shaft rotates (in total) about 2.500 times, and with this driving style the engine requires an average of 9 liters per hundred kilometers, which is a good two tons in terms of automatic transmission and almost a 5 meter long car is allowed.

The problem arises when the revs rise above 4.000, which always happens when we want more decisive accelerations, because then the engine gets louder and more thirsty. When I wanted to reduce the expected delay before the event in southern Slovenia, the consumption rose to 11 liters.

Drive Avensis Like. Unlike the already slightly futuristic appearance (by the way, is the caravan prettier to you than the sedan, too?) inside very calm, too monotonous and gloomy. If the materials were dressed in lighter shades, the glass roof would be more expressive.

The comfort leather seats, electrically adjustable in all directions at the front, have little lateral grip and are (too) high even in the lowest position. In the highest position, the head of a 182 cm tall man touches the ceiling!

Also flywheelAlso electrically adjustable in depth and height, it can be a few centimeters closer to the driver, so those who love him close to the body don't have to move the seat so far that the bent right knee won't have enough room due to the center console.

We must praise more open space for passengers in both rows, a large trunk, useful storage space and a list of various accessories and sugars, such as automatic headlight height adjustment (also lights up when cornering), automatic dashboard lighting, steering wheel retraction at the exit, auxiliary camera rearview, robust sound system, 40-inch touchscreen, 24GB hard drive, and last but not least, XNUMX/XNUMX free roadside assistance, which also includes Avensis offers Toyota.

Thus: Avensis it won't give you the luxury of a Mercedes, or the sportiness of a BMW or Audis, but that doesn't mean it won't be enjoyable or comfortable to drive with. The automatic CVT will be chosen by calm and lazy (but I don't mean anything bad) drivers who will be satisfied with the elegant work. Oh, and they'll also have to have a lot of money because Avensis not cheap, not at all so richly furnished.

evaluation

  • Basically, there are three things that can keep you from buying this limousine: driving position (a matter of habit), a loud engine when driving decisively (a matter of driving style), and price (a matter of bank account). Otherwise, it is a technically good, comfortable, spacious and elegant car. Glass roof? Because of the good feeling of airiness, we recommend it, just do not park it in a place where it can be contaminated by pigeons, because this smear in this case looks very ugly and is not suitable for a sense of elegance inside.
