Charging network unification: interaction, direction to the future

The decree on interaction between different networks of electrical terminals will come into force by the end of 2015. This project will certainly allow electric vehicle owners to move around more. The problem associated with the lack of autonomy of these machines has not yet been resolved.

Introduction to compatibility

The government plans to issue a decree that introduces interoperability between the various electrical terminal networks existing across France. A European directive in this direction was already published at the beginning of the last quarter of 2014. Then we are talking about the development of a kind of grouping of bank cards for electric vehicles.

This interoperability aims, in part, to enable electric vehicle owners to travel around the country without subscribing to various operators (local authorities, EDF, Bolloré, etc.).

Gireve for the best organization

Gireve is a data exchange platform designed similarly to the bank card grouping model. This tool, in particular, will allow operators to properly distribute customer payments.

Gireve currently has 5 shareholders, namely Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR), ERDF, Renault, Caisse des Dépôts and EDF.

Increase in sales

In this engagement project, we also see a way to increase sales of electric vehicles. Gilles Bernard, number 1 at Gireve, said that providing customers with continuous service across the country eliminates fear of breakdown, which is the first factor that explains the current slowdown in sales of these vehicles.

All eyes on Bollore

With the certification of "national operator" in January 2015, Bolloré risks becoming a drag on this interoperability project. Observers do not see well that this operator is sharing his data after he made a big bet on his own network. Moreover, Bollore is not yet a member of the Gireve.
