What does V8 stand for?

In the V8 engine, the cylinders are divided into two separate banks, four by four, they form one "V" с Angle 90 °... All pistons are connected to same crankshaft.

Over the years, the engines have been improved and improved, but the basic concept remains the same: eight cylinders arranged in a V-shape and the mandate is much higher than that of most of the industry.

Why not stick with the online scheme?

The question arises, why did the engineers not use an inline 8 or a large inline 6 with the same displacement to increase power?

V8 engine shorter and often lower, therefore easier to install under the cab... In addition, the shorter crankshaft also more stable and power is delivered continuously and optimally.

Successors: modern V8 Scania

Scania's current V8 only has in common with the first generation basic design, principle modular system and weight, despite nearly double the available power and many advanced systems.

I V8 todaydue to the high torque at low revs, they consume two-thirds of the fuel than their ancestors seventies. Average speeds are also much higher and are in line with emission levels. Euro 6.
