Volkswagen invited a group of journalists to Wolfsburg to show them the production version of the Volkswagen ID.3. Media reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with the car being praised for its temperament and driving experience. Among the most frequently mentioned defects is the poor quality of plastic in the interior.

The car was delighted with the aerodynamics of the VW ID.3 and emphasized that, despite the high cabin, it was possible to achieve a drag coefficient of Cx 0,267. The interior of the car was considered spacious and similar in versatility to a compact minivan. However, review author Greg Cable is not convinced that the car offers the Passat-like convenience that Volkswagen has repeatedly promised (source).

The dash is clean, with mostly tactile buttons (and giving feedback on touch such as vibration) and a 10-inch screen above the air vents. Mixed materials, there is a lot of hard plastic in the cabin... Journalists unanimously rate the quality of the salon as lower than that of the Golf.

The interior lighting reacts to what happens to the car: it flashes white when we give a voice command, turns blue when we select a destination in navigation, green when there is a call, and red when there is danger.

Driving experience

While driving, the Volkswagen ID.3 is nimble, although it weighs about 1,7 tons. A light push of the accelerator pedal is enough for the car to react instantly and give the impression of a hot hatch. In normal Drive mode, the car should offer the equivalent of "slack".: When we let the right leg rest, the Volkswagen electric car will move forward.

In battery mode, which is activated by a second click of the lever on the steering wheel, energy recovery mechanisms are activated to force the vehicle to brake. But they work weaker than, for example, the e-Pedal in the Nissan Leaf (source).

A battery with a low center of gravity makes the ID.3 predictable when cornering. Depending on the equipment, the vehicle can be equipped with an adaptive or standard suspension. The unit tested had 20-inch wheels and more expensive shock absorbers with variable damping characteristics. The noise in the cab is generated by the noise of the air and tires, but its design must be “well-muffled”.

The advantage of a city car is a turning radius of 10,2 meters. All thanks to the engine that drives the rear wheels.

Availability and price

According to information provided to the Dziennik.pl portal by Lukasz Zadvorny, director of the Volkswagen brand in Poland, The first copies of VW ID.3 1st will be delivered to customers in August this year.... I wonder what Volkswagen is officially saying about September:

The price of a car in Poland for version ID.3 of the 1st should start “below 170 thousand zlotys”. More expensive options cost respectively "up to 200" and "up to 220" thousand zlotys. The most basic model with a 45 kWh battery will be available for under 130 PLN.

Pricing details for ID.3 1st will be announced in a few days, June 17th. Non-first edition price lists will be published in the second half of July:
