Volkswagen ID.4 – Nextmove Review. Good range, good price, would take TM3 SR + instead [video]

The embargo on Volkswagen ID.11 reviews expired on Saturday, December 4. A number of materials about the car appeared on the network, probably the most extensive research was prepared by the Nextmove channel. Here are their first impressions and the VW ID.4 test, price, range and other interesting facts about the Volkswagen electric crossover.

VW ID.4 winter test

Let's start with Polish price: Volkswagen ID.4 in the variant tested by Nextmove 1st Max it costs from 243 990 PLN... Cheaper version of the model, VW ID.4 1stavailable from 202 390 PLN, so for an amount similar to Tesla Model 3 SR+ prices. But with Volkswagen we get an electric top-of-segment C-SUV crossover with rear-wheel drive (RWD, 150 kW / 204 hp) and a 77 (82) kWh battery, and the Tesla Model 3 is a D-segment sedan.

Declared by the manufacturer Range of identifiers. 4 is 520 WLTP units [up to 444 km in volume terms in mixed mode, up to 500+ km in the city - preliminary calculations www.elektrowoz.pl], and acceleration to 100 km / h beret 8,5 seconds.

Driving experience

What catches the eye on first contact with ID.4 is the absence of any errors on the counters and a working head-up display (HUD) with augmented reality elements. The latter can be extremely useful during navigation, although it should be remembered that the test is being conducted in Germany, which is probably better mapped than Poland.

The HUD, AR and blue LED strip on the pit tell the driver where to turn.

The car easily accelerates to a maximum of 160 km / h. During semi-autonomous driving, the car bounced off the sideline, but the markings were not the best, the weather was also not favorable (fog, wet). This, as well as the lack of alarm messages requiring a hand to be placed on the steering wheel, may indicate a problem with this particular copy.

Volkswagen ID.4 is well-muted, comfortable, more pleasant to drive than Tesla. However, it lacks strong acceleration from 70-80 km / h - compared to internal combustion cars it works well, compared to Tesla it looks bad.

range

When driving along the highway at a speed "I try to keep 120 km / h.", on a wet surface and at a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, the car consumed 23,6 kWh / 100 km (236 Wh / km), so with a 77 kWh battery it will be able to overcome up to 326 km with battery discharged to zero Oraz about 230 kilometerswhile the driver is moving in the range of 80-> 10 percent.

It's about winter driving. In summer, the range of the VW ID.4 motorway should be approximately 430 (100-> 0%) and 300 kilometers (80-> 10%), respectively. So the car could be a good alternative to the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, not to mention the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus.

Charging and trick to unlock the cable in the outlet

Let's start with the emergency unlock method for the cable that is stuck in the charging port. It is enough to press the button with the open lock on the key three times and the bolts must be loosened.

Samos charging looked great: when the battery was 1 percent discharged, the car started up with a power of 123 kWand therefore the power is close to maximum (the manufacturer promises 125 kW). Yes, the battery was warm after a fast ride, but the weather outside is not pleasant. At its peak, the power consumption from the charger reached 130 kW.

After 20 minutes of inactivity on the charger, the power dropped to 97 kW, the battery was half charged, so the car could drive another 160 kilometers on the highway. The manufacturer claims that it takes 5 minutes to replenish energy from 80 to 38 percent. Nextmove's measurements show that the car should perform even slightly better.

The cheapest version of the VW ID.4 Pro (not the first one) currently costs €1 in Germany, while the first version costs €43. If these proportions were maintained in Poland, the price of Volkswagen ID.4 Pro is from PLN 180.... Yes, with steel discs, but still with a 77 (82) kWh battery.
