Ceiling recessed luminaires - a way to optically enlarge the interior

They are ideal for a small apartment, but not only. What are the benefits of recessed ceiling lighting?

Small apartments are very popular, especially among singles and students. Their cost is clearly lower than that of large apartments, and besides, they can be ingeniously arranged to create a cozy living space. Usually the biggest problem is using the optical zoom. Contrary to appearances, this is easier than it might seem, because it suffices to use e.g. built-in ceiling lighting. This is a fairly popular method of creating a light source, which at the same time gives the impression of increasing the surface. What criteria should be followed when choosing and arranging this room? You will find tips on this in our article.

Ceiling recessed halogens or LEDs?

Before we move on to ways to expand the interior, you need to consider what type of light bulbs you want to use. In the case of recessed ceiling lights, traditional incandescent lamps are no longer used as they are not very efficient and consume a lot of energy. Some people decide to buy halogen lamps, which are inexpensive but have low energy efficiency. They also usually give a bright and strong light. The most efficient, but also the most expensive, are LED lights, which guarantee a long service life without the need for frequent replacement. In addition, this type of source includes the largest selection and the most varied offer. However, if LEDs still don't convince you, you can always install some of these bulbs and choose halogen bulbs for the rest of the bulbs. At the same time, you should not forget to adjust them so that the latter burn less often in order to slightly even out their wear time compared to LEDs.

Choose Recessed Ceiling Lights Over Pendant Lights

Many people can't resist choosing a decorative hanging chandelier for a low room. Of course, we will not forbid this to anyone, but it is worth remembering that each additional element optically takes up space, which means it reduces the room. In addition, special built-in spotlights illuminate the entire room much better, increasing its size. Downlights suspended from above also break the lighting throughout the ceiling, giving the impression that it is taller.

Instead of a single lamp, try recessed eyes in the ceiling.

Not forgetting to abandon the chandelier in favor of a lamp built into the ceiling, it should also be added that one strong light source will work much worse than several installed evenly over the entire surface of the ceiling. Of course, no one forces you to install several dozen small lamps for all the available space - the point is rather to abandon one light bulb in favor of several smaller ones. In addition, it is worth highlighting specific fragments, for example, various alleys - if they exist, of course - or the darkest corners of the apartment. This will help avoid the feeling that they clutter up the space.

Suitable color for recessed ceiling luminaire

Lamps have different light temperatures. However, it's not about how hot the object is, it's about the type of light they emit. Kelvin is used to measure heat (K for short), and its range is from 1000 K to 11 K. The higher the value, the bluer and colder the light. To visually enlarge the room, choose colder shades, because warmer ones give the impression of coziness, which creates the impression of a smaller space. Of course, it is not necessary to immediately switch to lamps with a temperature of 000 10 K, since they are usually used as an additional decoration, and not for the main lighting of the entire room. Lamps around 000K will be appropriate because they won't overload with too much white while still doing their "magnifying" job. If you do not like a color that is too cold, you can choose at least a neutral one, around 5000K, or liven it up with single warmer lights with a color of 4000K or 3000K.

A few more tricks to optically increase the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe room

Besides installing lamps, there are several ways to enhance the effect you are trying to create. It is best to use light colors on the walls, because, as we noted earlier, the lighter and colder the interior, the more it will appear. Another school of interior design advises to focus primarily on contrasts, for example, painting one wall in a dark color, and the other vice versa - this can have a positive effect on the perception of space, because potted or black creates an impression of depth. Undoubtedly, one element that is definitely worth painting in a dark color is the ceiling. Although the most common ones are painted white, a black or dark blue shade will give the impression of a larger area. If you additionally choose the appropriate color of LED fixtures built into the false ceiling, this will effectively increase this room. It can also be helpful to turn on the lights correctly. If two light bulbs at opposite ends of the room are turned on with one switch, this will give the impression of depth.
