Xpeng G3 review by Bjorn Nyland [video]

Bjorn Nyland got to test the Xpeng G3, a Chinese electric crossover that should hit the Norwegian market later this year. He has been posting videos about the car on the channel for three days now. It’s worth seeing them all, let’s focus on the range test.

Xpeng G3, Specifications:

  • segment: C-SUV,
  • battery: 65,5 kWh (internal version: 47-48 kWh),
  • reception: 520 units Chinese NEDC, 470 WLTP ?, About 400 kilometers in real terms?
  • power: 145 kW (197 HP)
  • price: the equivalent of 130 thousand rubles. In China, in Poland, the equivalent is about 160-200 thousand zlotys,
  • competition: Kia e-Niro (smaller, borderline B- / C-SUV), Nissan Leaf (lower, C segment), Volkswagen ID.3 (C segment), Volvo XC40 Recharge (bigger, much more expensive).

Xpeng G3 - range test and other interesting facts

Nyland has just returned from Thailand and is therefore in quarantine. Its rules are somewhat looser in Norway than in other European countries: a citizen must stay away from others, but can leave home. That's why he was able to drive a car.

range

According to Nyland, the car does not feel like a Tesla or drive like a Tesla. It contains only a few elements that resemble the cars of the Californian manufacturer, for example, the meters similar to the Tesla Model S / X.

While driving the cabin is quite noisy, the noise is generated by tires on a hard surface.

The energy consumption of the car at 14 degrees Celsius at a test distance of 132 km - the car showed 133,3 km - was 15,2 kWh / 100 km (152 Wh / km), which means world leader in drive efficiency... The charge level dropped from 100 percent to 69 percent ("520" -> "359 km"), which means that the maximum range of the Xpeng G2 is 420-430 kilometers per charge.

However, it is so smooth driving with the speed "trying to keep 90-100 km / h" (counting 95, GPS: 90 km / h), in Eco mode.

If we assume that we are driving a longer route, we must assume that we are using the car in a range close to 15-80 percent of the battery charge, which reduces the distance to be covered to 270-280 kilometers. So with one recharge we can travel along the route Rzeszow-Wladyslawowo and we still have some energy left for local travel.

Of course, when we accelerate to highway speeds (120-130 km / h), the maximum flight range will drop to about 280-300 km with a full battery [preliminary calculations www.elektrowoz.pl]. According to Nyland's estimates, the maximum flight range at a speed of 120 km / h should be 333 kilometers, which is still a very good result.

By the way, the reviewer also listed that The useful capacity of the Xpenga G3 battery is approximately 65-66 kWh.... The manufacturer claims 65,5 kWh here, so we know Xpeng is reporting a net worth.

Landing

The Xpeng G3 reviewed by Nyland has a Chinese GB / T DtC fast charge connector that supports up to 187,5 kW of power (750 V, 250 A), according to the outlet's description. However, a fully charged battery runs on 430 volts, which means that maximum charging power about 120-130 kW (higher voltage is used when charging).

There is a second socket on the right side of the car, this time for AC charging. When recharged from the wall-mounted charging station, Nyland reached a power output of up to 3,7 kW (230 V, 16 A). It is possible that this was the result of inadequate adaptation of the car to European power sources.

Roof camera and other curiosities

The local dealer reads the vehicle name in English as [ex-pen (g)]. Therefore, do not be ashamed to pronounce it [x-peng].

Road scales showed that the vehicle with the driver and equipment weighed 1,72 tons. The Xpeng G3 was 20 kg heavier than the Nissan Leaf (1,7 tons) and 20 kg lighter than the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus (1,74 tons).

Chinese electrician owns automatic belt tensionerwhich works even in normal situations. For example, the car held the driver more tightly when crossing quickly at a roundabout.

The Xpeng G3 can park on its own, and after the epidemic, it was equipped with a mechanism to "disinfect" the cab, heating it to a high temperature for 60 minutes. In this case, the air conditioner operates in a closed loop, and the air heats up to 65 degrees Celsius.

Summation

The car performed much better than the MG ZS EV that Nyland used during his time in Thailand. The reviewer calculated that if he had to choose between the MG ZS and the Xpeng G3, would definitely bet on G3... The second electrician is slightly more expensive, but better made and has a longer range.

He liked it.

Www.elektrowoz.pl editorial note: China uses the NEDC procedure to measure coverage, which has already been withdrawn from Europe due to unrealistic results. However, as far as we know, at least one update was performed in the Celestial Empire. This is confirmed by Nyland's test. because when converting Chinese ranges into real ones, we will now use the divisor 1,3.

It is possible that this will minimize the real runs of Chinese electricians.

Here are all of Nyland's videos:
