Changing the oil in the gearbox on the VAZ 2106

To be honest, I heard from many owners that during the entire operation of their cars, they have never changed the oil in the gearbox, although in fact, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, this must be done at least once every 70 km of run of your VAZ 000 ...

The procedure itself is not complicated, and to complete it you will need a tool that is listed below:

  • Hexagon 12
  • Container for draining used oil
  • Open-end wrench or ring wrench for 17 (head with a knob or ratchet)
  • Special syringe for filling new oil
  • Canister of new oil

First, we climb under the car or perform the entire operation on the pit. We substitute the drain container under the gearbox plug, which is located below, as shown in the photo:

Plugs come in either a turnkey or a hex, so keep that in mind. In this case, unscrew the plug using a hexagon:

After that, we wait until all the oil is drained into the substituted container. It is advisable to drain it only after the engine temperature has reached at least 50 degrees, so that the fluidity is better.

When a few minutes have passed and there are no more grease residues in the gearbox housing, you can screw the plug back into place. And then you need to unscrew the filler plug, which is located on the left side of the gearbox in the direction of the car:

Since the hole is located in a rather hard-to-reach place, it is not very convenient to change the oil and for this you need to use a special syringe:

Oil must be filled until its level is equal to the hole in the plug and begins to flow out. At this moment, you can turn the plug back and you can safely drive about 70 km more. It is advisable to fill in at least semi-synthetic oil, since during winter frosts it will be better to start the engine on it, because the load on the gearbox will be less.
