Replacing the timing belt Renault Logan 1,6 8 valves
The favorite car of our taxi drivers is Renault Logan, replacing the timing belt with 90000. Engine 1,6 liter 8 valves, almost all valves bend when the belt breaks. The recommended change interval is 60, check and adjust every 000, but experienced taxi drivers know that some belts will not last even 15, so change every 000.
There are two ways to change the timing belt for Renault Logan: as written in the book and simple. We will describe a simple method and at the end we will make a link to the distributor.
Under the hood is a 1,6-liter eight-valve engine.
Let's start
We put the right front wheel and remove it, remove the engine protection and the right plastic fender, it rests on two plugs and a plastic nut.
Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt. To do this, we put an assistant in the cabin, who turns on the fifth gear and presses the brakes, and at this time, with a slight movement of the hand and head, we loosen the crankshaft bolt by 18.
We jacked up the engine, but remember that Logan's pallet is duralumin, so a wide board was placed between the jack and the pallet. Loosen the five bolts on the engine mount.
We remove the support.
We remove the drive belt from the mounted units, on this engine it is the only one that rotates the air conditioner, hydraulic servomotor and generator.
We put the wrench on 13 on the tension roller bolt and turn it clockwise to loosen the service belt. At the same time, remove it from the power steering pump.
Using keys 10 and 13, unscrew the top protective cover of the handout.
Head to the bottom eighth.
Remove both covers and wipe them with a clean cloth.
And now the easiest way
We put the camshaft mark a little higher. We have specially corrected the old markings on the timing belt for clarity. The markings on the catfish belt may not match due to the fact that the shoulders of the belt between the markings are different and with each turn it will move two teeth. If it suffers, then after a certain number of revolutions, all the marks will fall into place, but we do not need this.
An icon in a circle will be needed if you go far, more on that at the end of the article.
If the previous mark on the belt and camshaft matched, then the second one on the belt and crankshaft too.
If you have a newer Logan, the camshaft sprocket will look like this.
And here a nuance arises, in order to stretch the belt, you will have to move the sprocket towards yourself with a special puller or a home-made device.
We mark the marks on the belt with a marker, if they are not preserved, remember which camshaft. We loosen the tension roller nut and remove the belt together with the roller.
In the new generation, the roller is already automatic and the belt is tensioned until the indicator matches the roller cutout, always in the direction indicated by the arrow on the roller.
The new timing belt has marks and direction of movement.
We apply the old belt to the new one and are amazed at how clearly all the brands match.
We put the new timing belt in place, aligning the marks on the belt with the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft. We stretch with a roller using the usual VAZ nozzle. We check the belt tension, twist a long branch with two fingers, and if it can be turned more than ninety degrees, we tighten it again. That's all. You can put everything that was removed earlier in its place.
And now the hard way
We put a mark on the camshaft opposite the icon on the cylinder head, which is circled in the previous photo. This is top dead center. Remove the plug from the cylinder block.
We screw in a special tool, which is a bolt with an M10 thread and a long thread of 75mm. We turn it instead of the sleeve, thereby stopping the crankshaft at top dead center. Install a new timing belt and tighten it. And the question is, why these extra operations?

Now you can change Logan's timing belt without much effort.
In general, despite the fact that the car is inexpensive, it turned out quite well. Engines easily withstand 300 km, to kill the chassis, you need to try. The only negative is the price tag of electrics.
