Geely SC water pump replacement

There is no need to explain the importance of keeping the motor temperature within the specified operating limits. In order for the cooling system to effectively remove heat from the engine during operation, it is necessary to ensure the circulation of antifreeze in it. The pumping of the coolant (coolant) through the closed circuit of the system is carried out by a water pump, which in Geely SK receives rotation from the crankshaft using a drive belt.

In the cooling jacket of a running engine, the coolant heats up, then the hot liquid passes through the radiator and gives off heat to the atmosphere. After cooling, the antifreeze returns to the engine, and a new heat exchange cycle takes place. Like most other cars, the Geely SC water pump has to work very hard. As a result, the pump wears out and needs to be replaced.

Signs of a Worn Water Pump

A number of symptoms may indicate that the moment has come when it is time to change the pump.

      1. Pump wear is often manifested by extraneous sounds. A hum or whistle usually comes from a worn bearing. In addition, a loose impeller can touch the inner wall and make a characteristic rattle or knock.
      2. A bad bearing usually causes shaft play, which can be detected by wiggling the pump pulley.
      3. Shaft play, in turn, can damage the stuffing box, causing coolant to leak. The appearance of antifreeze on the water pump housing or on the ground under a stationary machine requires an urgent response.
      4. Leakage of antifreeze will cause a characteristic smell that can be felt not only in the engine compartment, but often in the cabin.
      5. A faulty water pump will reduce engine cooling efficiency. The unit may overheat, and on the dashboard you will see an alarm about excessive coolant heating.

You can evaluate the performance of the pump by pinching the nozzle at the outlet of the radiator with your fingers while the engine is running. A good pump creates pressure that you can feel.

Use rubber gloves to avoid burns!

Ignoring problems with the cooling system can be too expensive, so if you experience the symptoms listed above, you should fix the problem as soon as possible.

The planned replacement of the cooling system pump is best combined with. It is recommended to change the water pump during every second replacement, regardless of the condition of the pump. This is approximately the period for which the pump exhausts its working life. The coolant should also be changed at the same time.

Water pump replacement process in Geely SC

Replacing the cooling system pump in Geely SC is somewhat difficult due to its inconvenient location. You will have to work hard to get to it, and therefore it is better to leave this matter to car service specialists. But if you have patience, skills and a desire to save money, then you can try to do it yourself.

You will need to climb under the car from below, so you will need a lift or a viewing hole.

The tools you will need are, and. Also prepare a container with a volume of at least 6 liters to drain antifreeze from the cooling system.

Fresh and new for your Geely SK can be purchased in the online store kitaec.ua.

It is better to stock up and, since during the repair process it may turn out that they also require replacement.

      1. We unscrew and remove the engine protection from below.
      2. We unscrew the drain plug on the radiator and drain the coolant into a prepared container. To facilitate draining, slowly unscrew the filler cap. To remove any remaining antifreeze from the pump, at the very end, start the engine for a couple of seconds.
      3. Remove the air filter cover and move it to the side along with the air duct. We remove the air filter housing with the filter element by unscrewing the three bolts with.
      4. unscrew the three nuts securing the engine mount. They are marked with red arrows in the photo.
      5. We install it from below under the engine and lift it until the studs come out of the mounting holes of the cushion.
      6. Using a 16 key, unscrew the two bolts that secure the pillow and remove it. They are marked with blue arrows in the photo.
      7. Using a three-bolt wrench, remove the power steering belt tensioner bar.
      8. turn the tension bolt located on the side of the generator and loosen the tension of its belt. We remove the drive belt from the generator pulley, which simultaneously rotates the water pump. If the belt is supposed to be used further, then mark the direction of its rotation with a marker so as not to be mistaken during reassembly.
      9. Remove power steering belt. Also do not forget to note the direction of its rotation.
      10. unscrew the 4 bolts securing the pump pulley and remove it.
      11. Loosen the air conditioning belt tensioner. We unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the roller.
      12. We unscrew the bolts and remove the middle part of the timing case.
      13. We unscrew the bolt securing the dipstick to check the oil level and take it to the side.
      14. unscrew the three bolts that secure the water pump.
      15. At the back of the pump, a pipe fits, which must be removed by loosening the clamp with pliers. To do this, you have to go down under the car.
      16. Now the pump is free and you can completely remove it.

You can proceed with the installation of a new water pump and reassembly.

Don't forget to replace the o-ring that should have come with the pump.

      Install and tighten belts.

We fasten the engine mount and lower the unit.

Install the air filter in place.

After making sure that the drain plug in the radiator is tightened, we fill and check the cooling system in operation. Check the coolant level in the expansion tank.

If everything is in order, the work on replacing the water pump can be considered successfully completed.
