Top 10 Used Minivans

Minivans are great family vehicles, combining passenger space, luggage space and versatility that other types of vehicles can't match. After all, MPV stands for Multi Purpose Vehicle. You can learn more about what MPV stands for here.

Whether you need five, seven or even nine seats, a minivan will suit you and your family. Each one gives you plenty of room for all your gear, as well as the ability to fold or remove the seats to make room for shopping, suitcases, or even a pet. Minivans may not seem as trendy as SUVs, but they are the best family vehicles, giving you tons of practicality for your money. Here are our 10 favorite used minivans.

1. Ford Galaxy

Galaxy is Ford's largest minivan. It has seven seats in three spacious rows. Each of the three seats in the second row is wide enough for a child seat, while the third row will comfortably seat two adults. The Galaxy has rear doors that open wide for easy access. With all seven seats, there's as much trunk space as a Ford Fiesta, and you'll get four times as much when you fold down the third-row seats.

Like many Ford vehicles, the Galaxy is more enjoyable to drive than most other vehicles of its type. It's relaxing on motorways, easy in the city and quite fun on a country road. The seats are very comfortable and the large windows let in plenty of light and provide excellent views.

2. Ford C-Max

The Ford S-Max, a sleeker and sportier version of the Galaxy, is lower and slightly shorter in length, but still very practical, with seven seats in three rows. It's perfect for outings with friends or family thanks to three middle row seats that are very comfortable for adults and a pair of third row seats that can be folded up or down as needed. In five-seat mode, the trunk is much larger than in a wagon of a similar size.

While a smooth ride makes your passengers happy, the S-Max is also very pleasant to drive, with that responsive feel you would normally associate with a hatchback rather than a minivan. Some models have all-wheel drive, which gives extra confidence on slippery roads and helps with towing.

3. Volkswagen Carp

If you're looking for maximum space and a more upmarket look, check out Sharan. It is Volkswagen's largest minivan and is available with six or seven seats in three rows. Large windows fill the cabin with light, and adults can sit comfortably in every seat. Getting in and out of the rear seats is easy through the large sliding doors, and there's enough room for a few shopping bags when all seven seats are in place. Fold down the third-row seats and there's enough luggage for a week or even a couple of big dogs.

The Sharan is quiet and pleasant to drive. It is quiet and comfortable on the highways, but it is also easy to drive around the city, despite the large dimensions. Large windows provide good visibility, making getting in and out of the parking lot stress-free.

4.Volkswagen Touran.

If you like the Volkswagen Golf, but need more room for the family, and still want something compact and easy to park, the Touran might be right for you. It's smaller than the Sharan, but it still seats seven: three adults can comfortably sit side-by-side in the second row, and there's plenty of room for kids in the third row. You can fold down all of the rear seats to open up plenty of trunk space if you need it.

Driving the Touran is like driving a hatchback—it's quiet and comfortable on the motorways, but feels right at home in the city. The interior has an upmarket Volkswagen feel that some rivals can't match, and if you opt for the Touran with its glass sunroof, kids can play I Spy with the planes.

5. Toyota Prius +

Being one of the very few hybrid minivans, Toyota Prius + costs very little to run due to its excellent fuel economy and low tax rating. It has a low, sleek shape to make it as efficient as possible, but it has enough room for seven adults. Third row passengers can get extra legroom if they need it because the second row seats can slide forward.

There is a storage compartment under the boot floor that increases your potential luggage space even with all seven seats. The Prius+ comes standard with an automatic transmission that makes driving easier, especially in traffic. Toyota has been making hybrid cars longer than most brands, and the Prius+, like most Toyotas, should prove to be very reliable.

6. Mercedes-Benz B-Class

Looking for extra luxury in your practical minivan? That Mercedes B-Class is one of the smallest minivans on the market, but it is still a spacious and practical family car with five seats in two rows. Four adults fit comfortably; the middle rear seat is more suitable for children. All three rear seats fold down individually, giving you the option to increase trunk space to fit your holiday luggage or take an old sideboard to the very tip.

You can choose from petrol and diesel models, and there are also plug-in hybrid and even electric versions if you want a more environmentally friendly minivan. The B-Class is quite small, so it's a great choice if you want extra practicality over a hatchback. In 2019, a new version of the B-class was launched (as pictured). The older versions are still great little cars, but the newer ones handle better and have more high-tech features.

7. Peugeot Rifter

If you think the Rifter looks like a van, that's because it is. Peugeot has taken one of its vans, added extra amenities and up to seven seats to create an extremely practical, yet still very affordable, passenger transport. Its wide and high body makes it very spacious inside and it is available with five or seven seats.

Unusually, the second row can accommodate three child seats, and the third row will be comfortable for adults. Getting into the back seat is easy thanks to the large sliding doors, and the trunk is huge even with all the seats in place. In addition to the standard model, you can order a longer XL model with even more space inside. There are also 28 internal storage compartments, including several in the roof, ideal for storing a variety of children's accessories. Large windows let in a lot of light and give a great view to both adults and children.

8. BMW 2 Series Active Tourer / Gran Tourer

Another premium minivan option is the BMW 2 Series Tourer, and you can choose from two different versions. That Active tourer the same size as a Mercedes B-class with five seats, while Gran Tourer has seven seats and a higher and longer body, about the same size as the Volkswagen Touran. Both models have large boots and can accommodate four adults. The middle second-row seat and both third-row seats in the Gran Tourer are smaller and better suited for children.

There are petrol and diesel models, as well as a low-emission hybrid version of the Active Tourer. The most powerful models have all-wheel drive, which gives extra confidence on slippery roads and helps when towing is needed. Every Tourer 2 Series is a pleasure to drive, feeling more agile and responsive than most other minivans.

9. Ford C-Max

If the Ford SUVs we've covered so far are too big for you, then perhaps the smaller C-Max will suit you. This demonstrates Ford's talent for squeezing maximum practicality out of a minivan, but still in a car the size of a hatchback. It is available in both five-seat and seven-seat versions called the Grand C-Max. You might think some competing minivans look prettier or offer slightly more upmarket interiors, but you'll find few are as fun to drive as the C-Max.

The C-Max is also very well equipped with features, especially in the higher trims; You'll love the heated windshield on cold mornings. The seven-seat Grand C-Max comes with sliding doors for easy access to the rear rows. Both petrol and diesel engines are available; we believe that petrol models are better for short city trips, while diesel models are more economical for long trips.
