10 commandments for a motorist, or how to live well with two-wheelers

10 commandments for a motorist, or how to live well with two-wheelers Car drivers do not like motorcyclists, although they themselves are not saints. In the meantime, a little understanding is enough. We will advise you on what to pay special attention to.

In the relationship between the "gunners" (motorists) and "organ donors" (users of two-wheeled vehicles), mutual hostility, and sometimes even hostility, is felt. Research shows that the causes of collisions between cars and motorcycles are: the inability to notice two-wheelers on the roads despite the fact that they are looking in their direction, negative attitudes and lack of empathy. The results of a study of the image of motorcyclists carried out by the Silesian police confirm this sad thesis. When asked what or who is associated with a motorcyclist, more than 30 percent. of those interviewed answered that the motorcyclist is an organ donor. This is the most common answer in all groups of drivers. The following associations are a suicide, a road pirate. The answers even mention the term "Satan."

In order to change the approach of motorists to motorcyclists and vice versa, it is necessary to understand a few seemingly banal rules of mutual existence on the road, which is why we have prepared two road decalogues. The first is for car drivers. The second is a guide for motorcyclists (On the road, remember the other 10 commandments of a motorcyclist. MOVIE).

Car driver, remember:

1. Before changing lanes, turning or turning around, you must check the situation in the mirrors. Of course, before proceeding with any of these maneuvers, turn on the indicator light. A motorcyclist, seeing a pulsating turn signal, will receive clear information about your intentions.

2. On a two-lane road, the left lane is reserved for faster moving vehicles. So don't block other people following you, including two-wheelers.

3. Don't compete with motorcyclists, although some like to be provoked. A moment of inattention or a breakdown on the road is enough to cause tragedy and injury for a lifetime. According to a British study, motorcyclists are fifty times more likely to be seriously injured or even killed in a crash than car drivers.

4. If you see a moped or motorcyclist squeezing through traffic, give him some room. You won't care, but it will have more room to maneuver and won't drive millimeters next to your rearview mirror.

5. Reaching out, throwing away cigarette butts, or spitting through an open car window is not proper for a well-mannered driver. Moreover, you can inadvertently hit a motorcyclist squeezing through a traffic jam.

6. When following a two-wheeler, keep a sufficient distance. On motorcycles, to significantly reduce speed, it is enough to reduce the gear or simply release the throttle. This is dangerous because the rear brake light does not light up.

7. When you need to slow down and see that someone on two wheels is behind you, do it as calmly as possible, avoiding sudden braking. Let him know by depressing the brake pedal in advance so that he is ready to slow down, come to a complete stop, or possibly drive around your car.

8. When overtaking two-wheeled vehicles, remember to leave a considerable distance. Sometimes it is enough to slightly hook the two-wheeled machine, and the rider loses control over it. According to the traffic rules, when overtaking a moped or motorcycle, a distance of at least 1 meter must be observed.

9. Motorcyclists, for example, turning into another street, use the so-called anti-twisting. It consists in leaning slightly to the left and after a moment turn to the right (the situation is similar when turning left). Keep this in mind and leave them room for such a maneuver.

10. We all have the same right to use the roads. Among other things, due to the fact that there are more and more mopeds or motorcycles, the centers of large agglomerations are still passable for cars and there is nowhere to park your car.

According to the statistics of the Polish police, the majority of road traffic accidents involving motorcyclists are not their fault. Applying the tips above will reduce the risk of killing someone else's health or life.
