While still under the rule of Ransom Olds, Oldsmobile became the first manufacturer to mass-produce cars. Prior to this, cars were produced in small batches. Oldsmobile bet on quantity, which allowed the price to drop. The Curved Dash was launched in 1901 and remained on sale until 1907. It is he who is considered the first production car.

After GM took over, Oldsmobile continued to do well. He was a pioneer when it came to automatic transmission, he used modern solutions in the field of engine design (Oldsmobile Rocket) and turbocharging.

The company remained in the General Motors portfolio until 2004.
