The history of General Motors began on September 16, 1908 with the Buick brand and William C. Durant, whose dream was to create the largest automobile concern. 

At the end of the 1908th century, he made money by producing horse-drawn carriages, but noticed in time that the future lay with horsepower, not a draft horse. As early as 1909, General Motors owned the Oldsmobile brand, which was already important to the automobile industry, and in the year Durant acquired Cadillac, the Oakland brand later known as Pontiac, and the Rapid Motor Vehicle, which became GMC.

Today, General Motors, after a difficult end to the first decade of the new millennium, is doing well, having released 9,7 million vehicles in 2017.
