When Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement founded their company in Mladá Boleslav on December 18, 1895, they did not even think about car production.

In the same year, the Slavia bicycle was launched and in a short time they became one of the largest bicycle manufacturers, which allowed them to move towards the automotive industry. In 1899 they built their first moped, and in 1905 they created a car called the Voiturette A, a four-wheeled car with the look of a classic open wagon for the time. The first cars were sold under the Laurin & Klement brand.

In the history of the brand L & K Skoda, she appeared in 1924, when, due to a factory fire, external support was needed. Help came from Skoda, then a large company specializing in the supply of weapons and ammunition, locomotives, trams and artillery vehicles. In 1925, Skoda bought the company and Skoda production began in Mlada Boleslav. Today, the memory of the founders is revealed, among others in the highest configuration, referring to their names.
