3 Causes of Premature Wiper Blade Failure

If rain or snow overtakes you on the road, it will be almost impossible to move without wipers. Therefore, when windshield wipers prematurely begin to fail to cope with their functions, it is necessary to figure out why this happened.

3 Causes of Premature Wiper Blade Failure

Glass chips and cracks

Chips and cracks on the windshield can be the cause of poor windshield wipers. Such defects appear, for example, due to the hit of stones or after a traffic accident. As a result, the rubber bands of the brushes touch these cracks and deform. Due to constant contact with damaged areas, they wear out so much that they begin to fail to cope with their functions, leaving stains and dirt on the glass.

Dry glass work

In no case should you turn on the wipers if the glass is dry. As a result of working on a dry "windshield", the rubber bands wear out quickly, lose their elasticity and deformities appear. Before operating the windshield wipers, moisten it with washer fluid.

Switching on after freezing

In winter or during frosts in spring and autumn, the rubber brushes harden. As a result, they are more susceptible to various mechanical damage. If you get into the car and immediately turn on the wipers, then the brushes themselves are easily deformed, which will lead to their early failure.

Do not operate wipers on icy glass. Rubber bands actively cling to the ice, and tears appear. And with constant such use, they completely begin to tear. If the glass is covered with frost, you must first clean it with a special scraper.

Also, do not forget to actively warm up the car during or after frost. At the same time, it is better to direct the flow of warm air in the cabin to the windshield (all passenger cars have this function). Thanks to this, the wiper brushes will also warm up, after which they can be used.

Remember the main points that will help keep your wipers in better working condition. First, if your car's glass is deformed, then try to fix it as soon as possible, otherwise it may lead to premature wear of the brushes. Secondly, never run the wipers on dry glass, be sure to moisten it first. And, thirdly, during frosts, before turning on the wipers, thoroughly warm up the car.
