It was during his time that Ford bought Lincoln and focused on producing cars with slightly more attractive styling; introduced the popular Model A and founded the Mercury brand. Edsel Ford decided to boldly develop the company, which was often associated with the dissatisfaction of the founder of the brand.

Edsel Ford remained president until the end of 1945, leading the company through the turbulent years of World War II, during which Ford built aircraft for the US government, including the iconic B-24 Liberator bomber.

In September 1945, eldest son Henry Ford II assumed the chairmanship and remained in that position until 1979.
