Ford was one of hundreds of Western companies that helped modernize the Soviet economy. 

In 1928, the first five-year plan began, in which, in addition to the elimination of private property, the main attention was paid to the development of heavy industry. On May 31, 1929, a contract was signed in Michigan for the construction of an automobile plant in Nizhny Novgorod, where the Ford A was to be produced.

It was a complex deal, as a result of which the USSR bought 72 9 cars from Ford. cars with a package of spare parts for maintenance for years.

This is how the Gorky Automobile Plant was created, abbreviated, like its products, GAZ. The first car left the factory in January 1932 and it was the Ford-AA, produced under the name NAZ-AA. The following cars were already called GAZ.
