360-degree camera

In terms of improving perception, the Japanese company Fujitsu has developed a new video system (with cameras) that allows a 360-degree view of the space surrounding the vehicle. Applications range from simple parking assistance to driving through particularly tight spaces and viewing blind spots such as dangerous level crossings, and recognizing obstacles in any direction of travel.

According to Fujitsu, modern systems tend to distort the image excessively and, above all, only allow multiple viewpoints to be changed on one screen. Hence the choice of placing 4 micro cameras at the corners of the car to obtain a three-dimensional image with a viewpoint that gradually moves so that possible dangers can be assessed at any time. In fact, this bird's-eye view recreates the world around the vehicle, continuously interpolating live video images, opening up new scenarios for active safety while driving.
