4 Important Things to Know About Car Waxing

Waxing and polishing your car is one of the most cost effective upgrades you can do to your car, and also the least labor intensive. While it can take half a day to properly wax and polish your car, the beautiful finish and shine you'll be rewarded with is well worth the effort. Everyone loves to see their car after the professional hand waxing is done; it just gives you a little extra fun when you clean your car yourself.

Positive preparation

The only way to get a great wax job is to fully prepare the surface first, which means removing all of the old, sticky wax that has built up over the years. Try using a product called Paint Prep to remove all the old goodness like sealant and old wax. After that, take some clay to clean the paint and go to the city! This product removes old stains and prevents them from re-entering your beautiful paint.

Thin film of wax

Bigger is definitely not always better when it comes to waxing your car! Apply only the thinnest layer that can solidify evenly - adding more wax on top prevents the wax from hardening and makes it as effective as possible. Use the smallest amount and keep buffing it until it's barely visible.

Add some coats

Just because you applied a thin layer does not mean that one layer is enough. One way to do this is to apply a thin layer of wax, let it dry and harden, buff, and then repeat. Alternatively, you can apply a second very thin coat directly on top of the first dry coat, allowing both to dry before buffing it.

Towels matter

Only microfiber towels should be used to buff the paint. There are a few different reasons for this, but just know that using the right (washed!) microfiber towels and keeping them as clean as possible is incredibly important.

Wax removal

Polishing can be hampered by excessive waxing, allowing it to dry too long, or other occasional problems. If you run into problems where the wax is too dry and hard to remove, you can always apply a quick wet wax over the top or add a little wax over the top to soften it up and get the wax. ready to be removed.

Waxing your car can be a relaxing exercise with a certain payoff as you see the amazing depth and brilliance of your car's paintwork!
