4 important things to know about car interior cleaning

Cleaning the interior of your car is something you should do regularly. This will keep your seats, carpeting and overall condition of your car looking its best for longer. If you decide to resell it in the future, your car will have fewer stains and will most likely cost more.

When to start

To start cleaning the interior of the car, throw out all the garbage. After throwing out the trash, take out everything that is not needed at that moment in the car. Remove car seats, pushchairs and empty cup holders so you have easy access to all the interiors of your car. Once your car is free of any extras that were in it, it's time to start cleaning.

Leather interior cleaning

The first step in cleaning leather seats is to vacuum them with an upholstery attachment to avoid damaging the leather. Most auto parts stores sell a special leather seat cleaner designed to safely clean leather material. Lightly spray the cleaner onto the leather, then wipe with a soft cloth.

Interior cleaning cloth

For fabric seats, vacuum them with a vacuum cleaner and be sure to remove all debris and dirt. A foam cleaner designed for fabric material can be found at auto parts stores. Spray the cleaning foam directly onto the cloth, wipe it with a damp sponge, then wipe off any residue with a soft cloth. Let the cleaner dry before using it again. When the vacuum is dry, vacuum the seats again to make sure they are clean. This will also fluff up the fabric and make it look better.

Carpet cleaning

Some carpet cleaners found in automotive stores come with a built-in scrubber. They are handy to have and will remove most stains from carpet as long as they are not greasy. Vacuum the carpet, then spray the cleaner directly onto the carpet. Use the built-in scrubber to remove stains. Let dry before using car again.

Car interior cleaning should be carried out regularly to keep the car in good condition. Specialty cleaners can be purchased from your local auto shop. Buy a cleaner that is appropriate for the type of material your seats and carpet have.
