4ETS - Four Wheel Electronic Traction System

4ETS is the 4ETS electronic traction control system developed by Mercedes-Benz that replaces the 4MATIC differential lock in all wheel drive models.

The system works on the principle of braking a rotating wheel that has insufficient traction and, conversely, transfers sufficient torque to a wheel with good traction. The 4ETS automatic braking impulses are monitored in conjunction with the ESP system in accordance with the vehicle motion sensors. The 4ETS system consists of a single speed transmission with a center differential that balances the speed on the individual axles. The differential is directly linked to the automatic transmission and forms a single drive together with the engine, speed converter and front wheel drive.
