4Motion

4motion is Volkswagen's all-wheel drive system that ensures a constant and dynamic distribution of traction thanks to three 4-wheel differentials, which ensures a very high level of active safety. The system also provides excellent traction in all grip conditions by automatically controlling any skid.

The system has evolved over time and has slightly different characteristics depending on the model on which it is installed. The central differentials share the torque, while the peripheral differentials are self-locking. In addition to ESP (which hardly interferes with this system), there are various traction control systems: ASR, EDS, etc.

As a four-wheel drive control system, it is a very effective active safety system.
