5 dangerous breakdowns, due to which the level of antifreeze rises sharply

Most drivers take their heads when the level of antifreeze in the expansion tank drops below normal. In fact, you need to worry when the amount of liquid increases. Portal "AutoVzglyad" tells what could be the problem.

In general, the level of antifreeze or antifreeze, which is actually the same thing, slightly increases when the engine warms up. This is fine. But what to do if there is suddenly too much liquid in the tank?

One of the most common causes is an air lock in the cooling system. It leads to an increase in pressure and squeezing out antifreeze. By the way, because of this, the “stove” or thermostat may not work.

The reason is more serious - damage to the cylinder head gasket. In this case, exhaust gases begin to enter the cooling system, which squeeze out the liquid. You can make sure that the gasket needs to be changed in a simple way. To do this, unscrew the oil filler cap and inspect it. If it has a white coating on it, it's time for a service.

It can also squeeze fluid into the tank if the water pump malfunctions. It's easy to make sure. Smudges will be noticeable around the pump. This is a signal that the spare part needs to be urgently replaced, because if the pump gets stuck, then a broken timing belt is not ruled out. And this will result in a major overhaul of the motor.

The next trouble is the depressurization of the cooling system. This is when the liquid began to leave, and the one that remained in the system boils, and, as a result, its level rises. If a leak occurs in the area of the heater, people in the cabin will feel a characteristic burnt smell, and the upholstery under the front panel will become wet from antifreeze. In principle, it is possible to drive with such a problem, but not for long, because the risk of overheating of the motor is high. It is better to fix the leak on the spot or go to a car service.

Finally, we mention such a nuisance as engine overheating. It can happen, say, due to a breakdown in the cooling system fan or temperature sensor, which will also raise the level in the tank. Overheating is hard to ignore. The coolant temperature arrow on the instrument panel will go into the red zone, and steam will pour out from under the hood.

This is a serious problem, because if the head of the block is aluminum, then it can “lead”. To protect the engine from fatal consequences, stop and let the engine cool down. After that, change the antifreeze and oil, because the latter, as a result of overheating, can lose its protective properties.
