Top 5 Selling Cars in California in 2012

Californians have a particular concern for the environment, and this often shows up in their choice of vehicles. While trucks rarely make it to the top spots, hybrid cars often make this list. While the Honda Civic and Prius have ranked high in previous years, the sheer number of fuel absorbers available could change that.

Here are the five best selling cars in California in 2012:

  • Toyota Corolla - Corolla is fifth in California with a 37 percent increase in the number of units sold in the state. Why? It has pretty impressive gas mileage at 26/34 city/highway, and the overall drive and handling is more than acceptable.

  • Toyota Camry Second Toyota on the list, the Camry outperforms its smaller siblings at 25/35 mpg city/highway with automatic transmission, but also offers lower rolling resistance tires and a range of both standard and available features.

  • H – The Accord offers just as much as the others on this list, but also takes it a step further with overall reliability and interior comfort. The combination makes it a great family car that also manages those gas station stops.

  • Honda Civic – The Civic offers more in fuel economy at 44/44 mpg for the hybrid, but it also features both passive and active safety technologies standard, and delivers impeccable steering and pedal response for improved driving.

  • Toyota Prius – It’s no secret the Prius takes the top spot in sales in California with 60,688 being sold in the state. Of the four versions available, the hatchback is the most popular, offering improved cargo space on top of the fuel economy.

Californians take the environment seriously, and it shows in the top-selling cars of 2012. All that gas mileage also makes those long commutes a little easier on the wallet.
