5 ways to defrost water in a washer reservoir, and one very quick

Filling the washer tank with water during the transitional period, when the autumn days are still warm, and at night the temperature does not drop below zero, negligent drivers risk being left with dirty windows at the most inopportune moment - temperature changes in autumn change quite rapidly. This means that at any time in the washer reservoir you can find ice instead of liquid. There are five ways to melt water, one of them is the fastest.

Warm garage or underground parking

It would seem that the solution would be a warm box, an underground garage or a parking lot. Partly, yes. But leaving the car in a heated room, especially if the washer reservoir is full, will take a good couple of hours. So this method cannot be called fast.

We drown the ice with alcohol

Some recommend pouring alcohol into the tank - it melts the ice. Again the right way and again not the fast one. Alas, a canister of pure alcohol is unlikely to stay in the trunk of any motorist for a long time. Yes, and this method is definitely not cheap.

Top up anti-freeze

You can add antifreeze to the tank. But, firstly, if the tank is full, then you won’t pour much. Secondly, the effect from it will be the same as from alcohol - not fast. Thirdly, if the water is frozen in the pipes leading to the washer nozzles, then the presence of a “washer” in the reservoir will not melt the ice in them. And so it's a way.

Hot water

The hot water option is also working, but with the same “buts” as the previous one. In addition, the question arises, how, for example, to pump out thawed water from the tank when the pipes are clogged? Yes, you can take a syringe and attach a tube to it. But all this rigmarole will take a lot of time.

hair dryer

But the option with a hair dryer is quite simple and quick to implement. Finding a hair dryer is not difficult if the driver is a married man. Finding an outlet is also not a big problem - but at least throw the extension cord out of the window. Even better, when the car has an inverter that converts 12V to 220V (a very useful thing for many tasks). And it's quite simple - to buy a small hair dryer, powered by a cigarette lighter. Then the problem is solved, as they say, once or twice.

The process of defrosting the tank, tubes and nozzles with a hair dryer will take no more than 15 minutes. After that, it will be necessary to drain all the water, fill in a normal anti-freeze and drive it through the system so that it finally flushes out the remaining water.
