There is nothing better than picking up a car or SUV and hitting the road. However, there are a few things that can make your trip so much better, or at least less stressful!
To plan or not to plan
Some people enjoy the thrill of being "located" somewhere, based on random fingers on a map. Others, however, panic at the thought of not having a clear idea of the destination of their journey. Look for yourself here and decide which category you belong to. Maybe you would like to combine these two things, knowing where you want to be, but not necessarily what you will do along the way.
Make lists
No matter how you are organized, packing lists make it easy for you. When you start planning your trip, write down everything you need to take with you. Make a list for each person and make sure things are ticked as they are packed. This will not only save you a lot of time searching on the road, but it will also save you money by avoiding unexpected stops for supplies.
Prepare your vehicle
Many people forget that all the important tuning, checking and changing tires, changing the oil are all the things that will help make sure your car is up to the task. This is especially important if you are traveling hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. There's nothing worse than being in five states and trying to handle all your luggage, kids, and a car that can't complete the trip.
Educational games
If there are kids in the car, you need to do some research to come up with games to play on the road. If you think you can rely on tablets or mobile phones, think again - you will run into areas where reception and signal are poor or non-existent. Knowing a few backup games will save the day!
Pack cooler
If you don't want to spend your entire vacation fund on fast food or grocery store snacks, bring a refrigerator with you. Every time you stop over for the night, find a grocery store and stock up on everything you'll need for the next day. Having a spare fridge on the road will also save you the time it takes to get to your destination, as you won't have to stop every time someone in the car gets hungry.
