8 steps to start your car quickly

How to start a car from an external source in 8 easy steps

Found that your car won't start? A dead battery can be a major inconvenience, but less so if you know how to power start your car. Luckily, Chapel Hill Tire experts are here to help! The startup process is easier than you might expect; Here is a quick guide to flashing a car battery:

Jumping off a dead car battery

If your battery is low, all you need to get it running is another car to charge the battery и cables required to connect them. It's best to always have a couple of tethers in the car in case you or someone else needs to jump. Once you're ready to use both of them, here's how to hop on a car:

  • Zoom in on the engines

    • First, bring a running car engine closer to yours. Parking parallel or facing the car is fine, but ideally the two engines should be within half a meter of each other.
  • Turn off the power:

    • Then turn off both machines.
  • Connect plus to plus:

    • Start by connecting the positive (often red) clips on the jumper cables to the positive battery terminals. They are often marked but can be difficult to see. Be sure to take a close look to make sure you are connecting to the correct part of the battery.
  • Connect minus to minus:

    • Connect the negative (often black) clips of the jumper cable to the negative terminal of the live battery. In the car, attach the negative terminal to an unpainted metal surface.
  • Safety first:

    • Remember that when connecting positive cables to batteries, you should always start by connecting a dead battery. If you apply power to the cables before they are connected to the battery, you may create a safety hazard. If you feel insecure or insecure at any point, it is important to seek professional help rather than risk your safety.
  • Start the working machine:

    • Start a working vehicle. You can give the engine some gas and then let it run for a couple of minutes while it charges the battery.
  • Start your car:

    • Start your car while it's still connected. If it doesn't start right away, wait another minute and try again.
  • Disconnect cables:

    • Carefully disconnect the cables in the reverse order of their installation in vehicles. Disconnect the negative cable from your car, then the negative cable from the other car, then the positive cable from your car, and finally the positive cable from the other car.

Remember, the battery is charged while driving. After you start your car, consider taking a scenic route to your destination to give the battery time to recharge. Even if your battery jumps and recharges, that initial low battery is a sign that you need a replacement. Bring your car to a local mechanic as soon as possible.

Additional launch options

If the traditional cranking option doesn't work for you, there are two additional ways to recharge your battery:

  • Battery pack jumping:

    • An alternative to the traditional jump is to buy a battery jumper, which is a portable battery with cables that can be used to jump start the car. Be sure to carefully follow the instructions that came with this battery as all devices are made differently.
  • Mechanic Jack and Pickup/Disembarkation:

    • The last option is to seek help from a specialist. AAA is a reliable roadside service that can find you and replace your battery. If you do not have a membership, you can contact options for mechanical pickup/delivery services. While your car needs to be running, these car experts can replace or service your battery and bring your car to you when it's ready.
