Active City Stop - impact prevention system

Active City Stop - shock prevention systemActive City Stop (ACS) is an active safety system that helps protect you from impacts at low speeds.

The system is offered by Ford and is designed to assist the driver in stopping the vehicle safely in heavy city traffic. Works at speeds up to 30 km / h. If the driver fails to react in time to a significantly slowing car in front of him, ACS takes the initiative and safely stops the vehicle. The ACS system uses an infrared laser that sits in the area of the interior rearview mirror and continuously scans objects in front of the vehicle. Estimates the distance to potential obstacles up to 100 times per second. If the vehicle in front of you starts to brake strongly, the system puts the braking system into standby mode. If the driver does not have time to react within a specified time, the brake is automatically applied and the accelerator is disengaged. The system is very effective in practice and if the difference in speed between the two cars is less than 15 km / h, it can completely prevent a possible accident. Even with a difference in the range of 15 to 30 km / h, the system will significantly reduce the speed before the impact and thereby mitigate its consequences. The ACS informs the driver about its activity on the multifunction display of the on-board computer, where it also signals a possible malfunction. Of course, the system can also be deactivated.
