ADAC Winter tire tests 2010: 185/65 R15 T and 225/45 R17 H

ADAC 2010 Winter Tire Test: 185/65 R15 T and 225/45 R17 H For the winter season, the German automobile club ADAC tested 15 tires 185/65 R15 (two of which are year-round and both have a winter alternative from the manufacturer) and 13 tires 225/45 R 17H.

Tested size 185/60 R15 fits a wide range of vehicles, mainly lower middle class (e.g. Opel Astra, Dacia Logan, Citroen C3, Picasso, Alfa 147, Honda Jazz, Peugeot 207, Nissan Almera Note or Mercedes-Benz class). A). The second tested size 225/45 R17 is used by more powerful versions of Volkswagen Golf V and VI, Audi A3, Škoda Octavia II, Seat Leon II, Fiat Stilo.

All tires are tested in conditions that have different weights in the assessment: dry (15%), wet (30%), snow (20%), ice (10%) and noise (10%), impact on consumption (10%) ) and wear (10%).

Only six tires received the highest three-star rating. Out of thirteen pure winter tires in the 185/65 R15 class, Dunlop Winter Sport 3D, Goodyear Ultra Grip7 and ESA Tecar Super Grip 7 proved to be first-class.

The results of the two all-season tires Goodyear Vector 4Seasons and Vredestein Quatrac 3 also differed greatly. While Goodyear recommends ADAC for motorists, Vredestein only recommended tires with reservations. This tire lacked the necessary grip on the snow.

Out of thirteen winter tires 225/45 R 17, Michelin Alpin A4, ContiWinterContact TS 830P and Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D got the highest marks. All tires performed satisfactorily on dry roads, but the decision was made on snow, wet roads and ice. Thus, seven tires received only two stars.
