Cordless mower: recommended cordless mowers

Spring, summer, autumn - these seasons have in common - an increase in the amount of work that needs to be done in your garden. One of the main ones is regular mowing of the lawn. For the most efficient mowing, it is recommended to use a lawn mower. One of the most popular are battery models. How do they stand out? Which cordless mower to choose?

Battery mower - what is it?

Some of the most commonly chosen types of mowers are petrol, electric (plug-in), and cordless, requiring top-up fuel. However, what distinguishes battery mowers is, among other things, the force method. Does not require dragging the hose during operation or refueling.

As the name suggests, this mower is electric but powered by a lithium-ion battery. This is a type of battery that is characterized by lightness, fast charging and long life. It does not require a cable plugged into a power outlet - just make sure the device is charged before you start to enjoy cordless mowing without additional emissions.

What are the advantages of battery mowers?

They are light, unrestricted and cut grass well on slopes. They are also a more economical and environmentally friendly solution than internal combustion models, as they do not emit harmful gases or create a peculiar fuel odor during operation. Lithium-ion battery powered mowers are especially worth choosing, as they are productive and can mow up to 650 square meters of grass on a single battery charge.

The mentioned low weight also has a positive effect on the comfort of work. Muscles are less tired when moving across the lawn - whether on a flat surface or uphill - a lighter device.

Another advantage of using a battery in electric mowers is that there is no risk of running into a wire and limiting the range of the device associated with its length. However, there is no getting away from the fact that in the case of a battery mower, the problem of close access to an electrical outlet and the need for sufficiently long extension cords disappear.

Do cordless mowers have disadvantages?

At the same time, the advantage and disadvantage of this type of solution is the need to recharge the battery approximately every 16 hours. Therefore, if you forget to charge the battery after finishing work, the mower may run out of power quickly the next time you mow the lawn. This will of course require you to pause while charging. However, in order to avoid such situations, it is worth arming yourself with a spare battery. Then in the event of a discharge, it is enough to replace it. You can also choose a cordless lawn mower with a battery charge indicator that will keep you informed of the battery status.

Will the cordless mower also work in large gardens?

Cordless mowers are especially recommended for smaller gardens due to the lower engine power caused by the battery, which needs to be recharged from time to time. However, this is not quite true. Some models can use two batteries at the same time, which increases the power of the device. The dual battery options also allow you to extend your lawn mowing time - if one is dead, the mower will automatically use the other. In addition, a battery level indicator, found on some lawnmowers, allows you to estimate how long a single charge will last.

If you plan to use the cordless mower in a large area, it is worth choosing a model with a higher voltage. For large gardens, models with a voltage of at least 36 V (two 18 V batteries) are especially suitable.

What to look for before buying a cordless lawn mower?

The price is usually the first thing they pay attention to - the range here is quite large. The cheapest model can be bought for a few hundred zlotys, and the most expensive even for a few thousand. However, this is not the only feature that needs to be tested. Therefore - what to look for when viewing individual models? Which cordless lawnmower will be really good?

Also worth checking out:

  • Grass bag capacity - the larger it is, the less often it will need to be emptied. However, keep in mind that if it is completely full, very large baskets will also add extra weight to the mower. However, you can easily find models with a capacity of up to 50 liters.
  • Battery capacity – it depends on how long you can expect the mower to work. It is expressed in ampere-hours (Ah), although manufacturers often indicate the average square meter of lawn that they mow on a single charge. Obviously, the larger your area, the larger the Ah number should be. For example, the WORX WG779E mower can use one of two batteries: 2,5 Ah, enough to mow a lawn of 230 m2, and 4 Ah, enough for 460 m2.
  • Battery included - not every model comes with a battery. Before buying, you should make sure that it comes with this model. The aforementioned WORX mower is sold, for example, both with the aforementioned batteries and with a charger that allows them to be charged at the same time.
  • Cutting Width - the larger it is, the more efficient the work will be. The mower will mow more grass at the same time (with a wider belt). It can be as low as 16 cm and can exceed 50.
  • cutting height - a parameter that determines how many cm in height the lawn will have after mowing it. In most models, it can be adjusted. The range can be from 20 to 100 mm.
  • Mok – expressed in watts, kilowatts or volts (W, kW, V). The higher the engine power, the more area you can mow.
  • Motor speed is expressed in revolutions per minute. The more of them, the faster the knives will rotate, which means that it is more efficient and effective to cut the grass without tearing or tearing it out.
  • The handle is height adjustable and foldable - the first will be especially important in the case of very short or very tall people. In turn, the possibility of folding the handle will save space in the garage.
  • Battery level indicator – an additional function indicating the battery charge level.
  • Basket level indicator – informs you when to empty it, thereby increasing the efficiency of work: there is no need to look into the container to check its condition.
  • Noise generated – Cordless mowers are recommended, among other things, for their quieter operation compared to petrol or corded mowers. Despite this theoretical rule, it is worth paying attention to the number of decibels (dB). The smaller, the lower the level of generated noise. Really quiet mowers do not exceed 60 dB.
  • Weight with battery – The lighter the mower, the easier it is to move and push. The weight of battery models is usually between 10 and 15 kg, although it can be more than 20.

The best cordless mowers - which one to buy?

In the offers of mower manufacturers such as Stiga, Karcher, WORX or Makita, you can find examples of efficient and functional devices powered by lithium-ion batteries. Here is a list of some of the most popular cordless mowers:
