TheAlfa Romeo Julia Velos he drives better than many cars playful: in terms of dynamics and driving pleasure, it is two notches higher than the competition, but still has some disadvantages in terms of technology and perceived quality.

Version Veloce da 280 CV it is quite fast and versatile - thanks to all-wheel drive Q4 - but if you are worried about the increase in fuel consumption, it may be better to opt for the diesel version with 210 hp. The standard equipment is quite rich, but something needs to be added.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a machine that shuffles the cards at stake.

After years of using front-wheel drive sedans - some good, some not so great - Alfa Romeo returned to construction rear wheel drive car, driving pleasure was put first: proof of this is the improved mechanics, which boasts a double wishbone front suspension (a solution used by racing cars or much sportier ones) and extensive use of lightweight materials.

The Germans in the sights on the Alfa Romeo Giulia prize, above all the BMW 3 Series, which are similar in concept and technical solutions.

Le available engines are

  • un diesel 2.2 4 cylinder decreased three power options: 150 hp, 180 hp and 210 hp. for the first two engines, both a 6-speed manual transmission and 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with torque converter, latest standard for 210 hp version.
  • two gasoline, both 2.0 turboone for 200 hp and one for 280 hp.

We tried this last one, so Alfa Romeo Julia Velos: 280 hp, automatic transmission and Q4 - all-wheel drive as standard.

CITY

TheAlfa Romeo Julia Velokи city she is comfortable and relaxed. The three driving modes offered by the "DNA" lever allow you to customize the Giulia to your liking. In town, in its quietest mode, the shock absorbers soak up holes like laughter (even with 19-inch wheels) and the automatic transmission shifts surprisingly softly at 2.000 rpm. You live very well in traffic jams, on Julia. There are also sensors and a reversing camera (standard on the Veloce) that help - quite a bit - in parking lots, but it must be said that The Giulia's turning radius is really large, which makes it not very maneuverable in some maneuvers.... This is due to the all-wheel drive and the front suspension arrangement on the arms.

Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 280 CV Veloce - Road Test“Going from any sedan to this one is like going from ski boots to running shoes.”

IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

The real foundationAlfa Romeo Julia Velos curves. When the throttle is moved to the “D” position, the shock absorbers become stiffer, the steering becomes fuller, and the engine more energetic. A few hundred meters are enough to appreciate the incredible work done by the technicians on this car: the steering is one of the best I have ever tried, better than many supercars. He is telepathic, light and connected to the wheels. And this is where Giulia matters, this is where it sows its competitors.

naturally un great steering without a good chassis looks like a good dish accompanied by bad wine, but it isn't. The Giulia is the only model in its class where the front wishbone suspension is attached to the chassis with links. This decision is accepted on race cars, but not on road cars.

The weight is then distributed between the front and rear in a 50:50 ratio: all this makes the car balanced and precise, but not at all rigid. Even with adaptive dampers in the most challenging mode, the Giulia maintains excellent straight-line comfort, but is as precise as a laser beam when cornering.

Go from any sedan to this one it's like going from ski boots to running shoes and the beauty is that you don't have to go fast to enjoy it.

The only slightly detuned note is the engine. Gasoline 2.0 turbocharged 280 hp and 400 Nm enough torque to start the Giulia with Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5,2 seconds and acceleration to 240 km / h.but he's too polite in the sound of e the delivery is so flat and regular that it is not overwhelming.

It's a shame, because with a fiercer engine, this would be the (almost) ideal sports sedan. Added to this is the fact that the electronic control cannot be disabled.

It's also true that most customers don't care about this detail, but since the Giulia is a car aimed at capturing driving enthusiasts, it remains a significant downside. Also because the car is so agile and sincere that it deserves to be left without electronics, at least on the track or on the mountain road.

шосе

TheAlfa Romeo Julia Velos it is a great companion on long journeys. In eighth gear a 130 km / h the engine runs silently at 2.000 rpm, noises are muffled and shock absorbers provide a high level of comfort. There's also adaptive cruise control and a lane departure warning system, although it doesn't actively affect the steering like in other rival vehicles. Consumption, taking into account power and all-wheel drive, is not low: the real average is about 10 km / l.

LIFE ON BOARD

TheAlfa Romeo Julia makes a big step forward in the interior of the brand's cars: the steering wheel is excellent in design and ergonomics, the seat is low and widely adjustable.

There is no such level as a perceived quality that is found in Germans, but the direction is right and the overall appearance is satisfactory.

The infotainment system isn't perfect either, with a large glossy black bezel hiding a rather modest screen (7 inches in the largest version), while Apple CarPlay is Android Auto are optional from 300 euro.
