Alonso has a preliminary agreement with Renault

However, the return of the Spaniard in Formula 1 is not guaranteed

After Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari announced their future divorce, Formula 1 cards were immediately removed from the table. Scuderia nominated Carlos Sainz, and the Spaniard vacated his place in McLaren for Daniel Ricardo.

This vacated one of the starting positions at Renault, prompting speculation that Fernando Alonso would receive a direct invitation to return to Formula 1. There are even rumors that Liberty Media will pay part of the salary to the two-time world champion.

Flavio Briatore commented that Alonso had already left behind the problems of the past with McLaren and was ready to return to the starting grid.

“Fernando is motivated. This year, outside of Formula 1, he did very well. As if he was getting rid of everything dirty. I see him more cheerful and ready to return, ”Briatore was categorical in front of the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph even claims that Alonso has signed a preliminary agreement with Renault. The French desperately need a solid replacement for Daniel Ricardo in order to be able to continue the struggle for a place in the top 3, and in the current situation it will be difficult for Alonso to find the best option to continue his sports career.

However, the preliminary agreement does not guarantee that both parties will sign the contract. For the French, the biggest hurdle will be financial. Cyril Abitebul even recently said that the salaries of pilots should be limited in parallel with a budget cut.

On the other hand, Renault must categorically show Alonso that he has the strength to fight again for a place on the podium and, ultimately, for victories. This is unlikely to happen based on pre-season results and the current chassis will be used next year, meaning the chances of a renaissance at Anstone are based solely on the rule change for 2022.

If Alonso gives up Renault, then Sebastian Vettel could become Esteban Ocon's teammate. However, according to experts in the paddock, the German is much more likely to resign if he does not receive an invitation from Mercedes.
