🔧 How to change the steering rod?
Before you start replacing your steering rods, make sure you have all the necessary technical skills and the necessary equipment, including a torque wrench and something to check the parallelism of your vehicle.
Required material:
- Torque wrench

- New steering rod
- Ball joint remover
- Hammer
Step 1. Place the machine on jacks.
Start by jacking up the vehicle so that you can easily access the wheels of the vehicle. Then remove the wheels on which you want to change the steering rod. If you don't know how to disassemble a wheel, you can read our dedicated article.
Step 2: Loosen the ball joint nut.
To gain access to the stem, you first need to loosen the ball nut with a suitable wrench. Loosen the nut and then remove it completely. Also remember to remove the locknut.
Step 3. Remove the link
You can now knock out the link with a hammer or ball joint puller. Start off with a hard hit on the top of the patella, then twist to complete the twisting. Your tie rod has been removed!
Step 4. Collect a new link
Start by screwing the tie rod to the steering arm and then reinstall the ball joint on the steering arm shaft. Now tighten the nut and locknut again.
Step 5: assemble the wheel
Your tie rod has now been replaced, you can reassemble the wheel! Also remember to go to the garage to check the geometry of your car, because replacing the steering rod may have caused some malfunction in previous settings.

If you want to replace the tie rods yourself, count around one hundred euros for the room. Completing the mechanics requires about 150 euros more, taking into account the working time and the cost of parallelism. Therefore, on average, replacing rods will cost you about 250€.
