Antifreeze for Nissan Qashqai

Coolant is essential to the proper operation of your vehicle. Thanks to this, the engine does not overheat during operation. Timely replacement helps prevent radiator corrosion and deposits inside the channels, which prolongs the life of the car. Each Nissan Qashqai owner can independently replace antifreeze.

Stages of replacing coolant Nissan Qashqai

In this model, it is desirable to replace the antifreeze with flushing the system. The fact is that the drain plug of the engine is in a hard-to-reach place. Therefore, it is not always possible to drain the liquid from the block. If in the 4x2 version access is more or less normal, then in all-wheel drive 4x4 models access is not possible.

This model was supplied to different markets under different names. Therefore, instructions for replacing the coolant will be relevant to them:

• Nissan Qashqai (Nissan Qashqai J10 Restyling);
• Nissan Qashqai (Nissan Qashqai J11 Restyling);
• Nissan Dualis (Nissan Dualis);
• Nissan Rogue).

Popular engines in the first generation are 2,0 and 1,6 liter gasoline engines, as they were supplied to the Russian market. With the advent of the second generation, the engine range was expanded. A 1,2-litre petrol engine and a 1,5-litre diesel are now also available.

Although the installed engines differ in volume, the procedure for replacing antifreeze for them will be the same.

Draining the coolant

The coolant should only be changed when the engine is cold. Therefore, while it cools down, you can unscrew the motor protection. It is removed quite simply, for this you need to unscrew only 4 bolts under the head by 17.

More algorithm of actions:

1. To drain the coolant, it is necessary to disconnect the lower pipe, since the manufacturer did not provide a drain plug on the radiator. Before this, it is necessary to substitute a free container under it. It will be more convenient to remove the tube from the adapter tube located on the lower cross member of the housing (Fig. 1). 2. As soon as our hose is released, we tighten it and drain the used antifreeze into a pre-set container.
3. For faster emptying, unscrew the cap of the expansion tank (fig. 2). Fig.2 Expansion tank cap
4. After the antifreeze has stopped flowing, if there is a compressor, you can blow the system through the expansion tank, another part of the liquid will merge.
5. And now, in order to completely remove the old antifreeze, we need to drain it from the cylinder block. The drain hole is located behind the block, under the exhaust manifold, it is closed with a regular bolt, turnkey 14 (Fig. 3). Fig.3 Draining the cylinder block

The first operation to replace antifreeze is completed, now it is worth putting a drain plug on the cylinder block, and also connecting the radiator pipe.

Many instructions distributed on the Internet suggest draining the coolant only from the radiator, although this is not true. You have to change the fluid completely, especially since many do not flush the system.

Flushing the cooling system

Before filling in new antifreeze, it is recommended to flush the system. It is better not to use specialized flushing, but to do it with ordinary distilled water. Since flushing can remove deposits that have accumulated in the internal channels of the engine. And they clog smaller channels inside the radiator.

Flushing on the Nissan Qashqai is carried out, in particular, to remove non-draining antifreeze residues located in the channels of the cylinder block, as well as in the niches and pipes of the cooling system. This is especially true if for some reason you have not drained the liquid from the cylinder block.

The flushing procedure itself is simple, distilled water is poured into the expansion tank, up to the maximum mark. The engine starts and warms up to operating temperature. Then make drainage.

To achieve a normal result, 2-3 passes are enough, after which the water will be clear when drained.

But you need to understand that after each start you need to let the engine cool down. Since hot liquid can not only cause burns when it is drained. But this can also negatively affect the head of the block, because the cooling temperature will be sharp and can lead.

Filling without air pockets

Before pouring new antifreeze, we check that everything has been put in place. Next, we begin to pour liquid into the expansion tank, this should be done slowly, in a thin stream. To allow air to escape from the cooling system, this will prevent the formation of air pockets. It also does not hurt to tighten the pipes, for a better distribution of antifreeze throughout the system.

As soon as we fill the system to the MAX mark, close the plug on the expansion tank. We check the gaskets for leaks, if everything is in order, we start our Nissan Qashqai and let it work.

The car must be warmed up to operating temperature. Warm up several times, increase the speed, again reduce to idle and turn off. We are waiting for the engine to cool down to top up the coolant level.

An indicator of the correct replacement is the uniform heating of the upper and lower radiator tubes. Just like hot air from a stove. After that, it remains only after a few days of operation to check the level and, if necessary, recharge.

If something is done wrong, an air pocket is still formed. To pull it out, you need to put the car on a good slope. To raise the front of the vehicle, set the parking brake, put it in neutral and give it a good throttle. After that, the air lock must be thrown out.

Frequency of replacement, which antifreeze to fill

For a Nissan Qashqai car, the coolant service interval, in the case of the first replacement, is 90 thousand kilometers. Subsequent replacements must be carried out every 60 km. These are the manufacturer's recommendations set out in the instruction manual.

For replacement, it is recommended to choose the original Nissan Coolant L248 Premix Green antifreeze. Which is available in cans of 5 and 1 liter, with catalog order numbers:

• KE90299935 — 1l;
• KE90299945 - 5 liters.

A good analogue is Coolstream JPN, which has Nissan 41-01-001 / -U approval, and also complies with JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards). Also, liquids of this brand are supplied to Renault-Nissan carriers located in Russia.

Another liquid that many use as a replacement is RAVENOL HJC Hybrid Japanese Coolant Concentrate. It is a concentrate that has the necessary tolerances and can be diluted in the correct proportion. Taking into account the fact that after flushing a small amount of distilled water remains in the system.

Sometimes motorists do not pay attention to the recommendations and fill in the usual antifreeze labeled G11 or G12. There is no objective information about whether they cause damage to the system.

Leaks and problems

Leaks on a Nissan Qashqai car most often occur due to poor maintenance. For example, many change the original clamps to simpler worm. Due to their use, leaks in the connections may begin, of course, this problem is not global.

There are also cases of leakage from the expansion tank, the weak point is the weld. And, of course, the banal problems associated with the wear of pipes or joints.

In any case, if antifreeze has been spilled, the place of the leak must be looked for individually. Of course, for these purposes, you will need a pit or a lift, so that if a problem is found, you can fix it yourself.
